China's rapid growth is often painted as a threat to American interests. But President Obama said today that the country's economic progress benefits the United States and opens the door to greater international stability and humanitarian progress.
"We welcome China's rise," Mr. Obama said at a press conference at the White House with Chinese President Hu Jintao. "I absolutely believe that China's peaceful rise is good for the world, and it's good for America."

From an e-mail message to me this morning (no link yet to Chinese dissent, Wei Jingsheng’s letter to the leaders of the US Congress and Hillary. Wei spent 15 years in prison in China for criticizing Deng Xiaoping, and China’s lack of democracy, etc.):
The following is Wei Jingsheng’s letter today to the leaders of the US Congress and Secretary Clinton.

Dear friends,
This event even made me feel ashamed. So I have to tell you.
Right in the White House, during the concert at the end of the state dinner that President Obama offered to Hu Jintao, the Chinese pianist Lang Lang played a Chinese song. (Related web link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kroEprEpvtA start at 6:24.) After the performance, both President Obama and Hu Jintao thanked the artist, and took the opportunity to talk about “cooperation” and “bridges”, etc. At the end of that dinner, Hu Jintao, who has the reputation of being a dull person, even specially embraced the artist with enthusiasm. (Related link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnbtNtFjyFo near the end of the video.)
Which kind of music could make Hu so warm, which is so out of his character? I listened to that music with a big shock. It is from the main theme song of the best-known Communist propaganda movie about the Korean War when the Chinese army entered the Korean peninsula to fight with the Americans. The title of the movie is: “Battle of Triangle Hill” (see link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-aTpkd6-P8). This movie is widely known in China as a household name, as, for example, “Gone With the Wind” is in the US. The song is the leading anti-American propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party. It openly refers to the U.S. military as “wolves” and how the Chinese will use weapons to deal with them. Is that not an insult to the USA to play such kind of music at a state dinner hosted by the US President? No wonder it made Hu Jintao really happy.
As the dictator of the biggest autocratic regime, Hu Jintao likes this manner to humiliate the Americans. This is normal. What is abnormal is that it did not happen on a state dinner in China, but a state dinner in the US White House. So, it appears that the Americans were humiliating themselves. How could President Obama let this kind of humiliation happen in his White House, and even praise the artist, meanwhile expressing “extraordinary pride” and “looking for many years of cooperation” with a notarious dictator? Some excited “patriotic Chinese” have already written their comments such as: “the right place, right time, right song!” on Internet.
Your friend forever,
Wei Jingsheng
And that’s the only truth he’d ever tell....:]
Excellent point.
Oh. My. God.
Thank you for your strong presence on this thread. It’s good to see America promoted so enthusiastically.
Thank YOU much for the support!
The USA is not a "full fledge democracy", we are a constitutional republic. I am sure China is fine and wonderful, as long as you are in lockstep with what the government decides you should do. However, if you are in any way out of synch with the government's desires such as the Falun Gong, a protester at Tiananmen Square or a Tibetian, just to name a few, you have no rights. None. Zero.
When you find out the hard way that you have no rights of your own except those granted to you at the whim of the government (which the government can take away with no questions asked) you realize, as many people under communist governments find, that it isn't all that that great. If you live in China, you can disappear. Gone. And nobody will ever do anything about it.
So, ponder life, you may think that is great, but I don't. We have enough fools who want to surrender their liberty to achieve some goal they think is worthy such as universal heath care or cradle to grave money from the government, but once you lose your rights, none of that is worth jack squat.
Forgive those of us who think there is nothing worth emulating in the communist Chinese government, because unless it meets the premise of recognizing inalienable rights (which Communism does not, no matter how many washing machines or computers their citizenry can afford) then it is all a steaming pile of crap.
Thanks for clarifying... I would never refer to these idiots as honorable.
You may be right. The look on his face is scary to me... I pray for the safety of this country.
Really?
I think Obastard looks scared poopless.
He is both.
ANYTHING BUT AMERICAN, RIGHT OBAMA?
Thank God that time is fleeting and this age is soon over. Soon all the wicked people will have been harvested out from the earth. Revenge is mine sayeth The LORD. All of them will be judged by The Righteous LORD and it will be much sooner than later. Most all of these people do not realize how very, very short life on earth is and how endlessly long eternity is. They live it up now and call each other honorable but soon they will have to face the truth about what rotten, demented worms they really are. It is good to know that justice, truth and sanity shall prevail.
Unfortunately, Obama is far from the first president to have this attitude toward Red China. GHWB, Clinton and GWB all paved the way for the situation that exists today.
It started back with Nixon before he was a criminal he kissed China’s butt.
Ponder life, you troll you. lol. Just because you say something positive about China? Really?
Red China wants the US enslaved. They still need the American markets to keep their ponzi scheme afloat. Six months of a trade embargo would send China into an economic slide from which they would never recover. Of course Walmart wouldn’t have much to sell, but it wouldn’t take long to find other sources.
This obligatory ‘trading’ with China has become at best, as treacherous as dating a girl you eventually find out is full of STDs./ Consider the long list of toxic products this relationship has ALREADY brought us-—and how well the MSM has soft-pedalled these issues and the attention it deems fit to give to them.
The drywall thing alone would merit a 15 minute spot on 60 Minutes if it were manufactured by USGypsum.

There are some who think Communist China is so very different from what it was in the 1950’s or 1960’s.
They may be wearing a different type of glove, but the fist underneath is still the same. This particular aspect with this choice of “entertainment” makes it all too clear.
We forget this at our peril.
