A leading civil rights leader in Congress believes the Democratic Party is losing too many white voters.
In an interview, Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) said Democrats need to "go all out" to win back white Southern voters before the next election.
White voters preferred Republican candidates by almost two-to-one in the midterms last year. Their support helped the GOP win 22 seats in the states that make up the Old Confederacy. The Democrats' only pickup in the region was the New Orleans district where the party holds a registration advantage.
Since November, there have been a string of defections by Southern Democratic state lawmakers, which has prompted renewed speculation about the party’s future in the region. Former Alabama Rep. Artur Davis (D) said Democrats should even consider running as Independents if they want to succeed.
Lewis, who was a civil rights activist before being elected to Congress in 1986, said he's concerned the party is losing its diversity, which will make it difficult to reclaim the lost seats.
"We've got to go all out and get white voters, especially white men, to come back to the Democratic Party," he told The Ballot Box. "I just think it's important for the Democratic Party to roll out and try to reveal itself and not become a party that is split along racial lines."

It is not just Obama but the entire Dem leadership including white Dems who keep insisting unequal enforcement of laws involving race. A black man with a B average is equal to a white man with an A average for college entrance. A black man can scream whitey and cracker while beating a white crime victim is not hate crime. A black man dressed in military garb armed with a club at a polling place intimidating white voters in Philadelphia is not a serious Civil Rights case. Blacks can use racial epithets against whites in rapp music and no one says anything and a white comedian says anything insensitive and he loses his job!!???? Dems are sitting around scratching their heads wondering why whites are abandoning their party in droves??? Any minority that plans to declare war and mistreat a group that represents 65 percent of the US population is insane. If 90 percent of whites support one party in every election, that party will be in power for a very very long time.
Headline should read: “White Voters Waking Up To Democrat Hatred Towards Them....”

Or you could look at the Democrat voters coalition. Democrats win elections by being able to take 90+% of the black vote for granted.
If Republicans were able to get 30% of the black vote, in a national election, that would probably be enough to tip the balance to a Republican presidential candidate. Ditto for candidates for statewide office in states with big black populations.
Like it or not, the Democrats are the party of liberalism, quotas, affirmative action, enviro-extremists, feminist extremists, foreign policy apologists, etc. Any special interest group such as homosexuals find their political homes within the Democrat party. The party has cultivated these constituencies and that’s who they are. And the Democrats are the party of an ideology which wants a federal program to try to solve every conceivable social ill.
Unfortunately for them, they are finding that catering to all of these special interest groups has alienated large numbers of other groups of voters.
Lewis and all the far left socialists can go to Detroit for all I care.
