Illinois Passes A Huge 66% Tax Hike, Governors Around The Country Are Making Fun Of It
Business Insider ^ | 01/11/2011 | Joe Weisenthal

Poor Illinois. It's taken over the mantle as the state that everyone thinks is the most screwed.

Faced with a monster budget gap, the state Senate just passed a monster 66% hike in the state income tax.

The news has governors or other states gleeful.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels said today that the tax hike was good for... Indiana

And during his State of the State address, New Jersey governor Chris Christie held up Illinois as a state that was going in the wrong direction.

Chicago readers, any plans to move?

Michigan must be feeling a little like Jimmuh Carter. No longer the worst of the worst.

Come on, get with it. This is a TAX CUT!!! Remember the original proposal was for a 75% tax increase and since it got raised only 66% it is almost a 10% tax cut.

(remember these are dimocRATS working)

Also, Springfield Armory and ArmaLite in Geneseo, Rock River Arms in Colona and Lewis Machine and Tool in Milan are probably looking at this too.

Yup. And I can see the city lights of all of these on a
good night.

DSA Arms is in IL too and they make fine FAL-FN .308 clones.

I would not know because I lost my guns and ammo in a boating accident.

I always wondered why those companies were in a ****hole like IL. I had to go to a suburb of Chicago and saw all these tool and die machinery companies. Based on the names probably a lot of German extraction tool and die guys up there.

We would expect revenue revenue collected in Il to stop dropping in a few quarters.

You mean "days", right?

Madigan was NOT going to let a Republican win the governor’s race. Quinn is a seat-warmer for Madigan’s daughter Lisa. Hey—they were threatening alot bigger tax increase, 66% is doing us a favor. /s
Would love to leave the state when we retire, but our kids and grandkids are here.....

If you’re a realty speculator? I’d start buying property for development on the borders in Wisconsin and Indiana.

The "gimme" class will stay right where they are in Chicago. Missouri, Kentucky and Iowa also share a border with Illinois, Michigan too for that matter but we don't need to go there. I'm looking in Missouri.

Now here’s a hospitable Lone Star Stater if I ever saw one.

Oh, there's plenty of room out in West Texas for Yankees.

Last I looked, the population of Deaf Smith County was one (1).

From 3% to 5.25% is a 75% increase, not 66%.

They should pass huge Luxury Taxes. Also tax any accumulated assets. Then they could pass a progressive tax tax. A tax on taxes would really work good. The more taxes you pay then the higher tax tax bracket. Paying tax is a privilege not a right.

From 3% to 5.25% is a 75% increase, not 66%.

From here:

Under the current version of the bill, the individual income-tax rate would jump to 5%, from the current 3%, a 67% increase. That is more conservative than last week's proposed 5.25% rate, a 75% increase. Also, the corporate tax rate would increase to 7%, from the current 4.8%.
