Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), one of the few pro-gun control Republicans in the House, wants to make it illegal for someone to carry a gun within 1,000 feet of certain high-ranking federal officials, including members of Congress.
It is imperative that we do all that we can to give law enforcement the tools they need to ensure the safety of New Yorkers and prevent an attack before it happens, said King, who is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, during a press conference in New York.

I'm in California and I've had my gun rights protected by pro-gun Democrats, and threatened by anti-gun Republicans, more times than I care to remember. So explain to me again why the NRA should throw pro-gun Democrats under the bus for our "friends" in the GOP.
I was thinking the same thing. The only thing that might possibly do would be to change the weapon of choice, but realistically a maniac like Loughner wouldn't pay attention to the law in the first place.
He was disarmed by someone with a conceal carry, while he was reloading.
)n 9/10 he was the loudest and most obnoxious American supporter of the IRA on the national level.
Gladhanding Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness was his favorite pastime.
By the way wasn't it a Conceal-Carry citizen who stopped the shooter?
This RINO needs to go to the glue factory. (Is that legal to say? DAMNED STRAIGHT it is!)
Supposedly Congresswoman Giffords was carrying but had no time to react. Had others in her entourage been carrying, they probably would have stopped Loughner much sooner.
I may have my distances wrong- but wouldn’t this have stopped Oswald dead in his tracks?
I’m not sure about the grassy knoll shot, though, wasn’t that over 1000’?
If only we had had this law in place, Jack Kennedy would have lived a much longer life.
And Reagan, and Ford, though Linnette Fromme had not chambered a round.
banning of bombs within 1,000 feet to be taken up in committee in 2012
I support this law with just one itsy-bitsy, very minor modification.
That Congresscriters must inform citizens at least a week in advance of their locations and the extent of the prohibited zone. The congresscriter must mail his itinerary to ALL citizens who might possibly move into this prohibited zone. The itineray must be received at least seven days prior to the congresscriters visit. A failure of the congresscriter to provide such adequate warning to ANY citizen who might inadvertently wander into the prohibited zone shall subject the congresscriter to whatever penalty applies to the citizen who violates this law. Any deviation, by so much as one foot shall also subject the congresscriter to such penalties. Unless law enforcement can provide proof that the citizen received such notification seven days prior, the citizen shall be found not guilty of a violation.
Supreme’s already invalidated one law prohibiting possession of a firearm within 1000’ of a school saying that it would snare citizins who inadvertently moved into the zone. At least with a school, you have at least some idea of where it is. If you have no idea that a congresscriter will be at a certain location, then there’s no way you can be prosecuted for venturing close to that spot. And, of course, the congresscriter must assume responsibility for adhering to the published itinerary.
I think that law might save more lives.
They are so worried about the politicians. Has anyone figured out how many citizens have been killed by politicians?
“[How do these people keep getting elected?]”
#####
They hand out government cheese to entitlement parasites, stolen from other Americans, often too stupid to even realize it.
Only temporarily. Congress passed a revised Gun Free School Zones Act, and that (revised) law has been upheld by Federal Courts of Appeal; as a permissible exercise of the Commerce Clause power.
Yeah, it starts out at 1000 feet, who could be against that reasonable restriction?
Then its upped to 3000 feet, then 5000 feet
North Eastern Republicans are a horse of a different color.
They are so close to being Democrats that they are basically indistinguishable.
This is why letting New Hampshire have first crack at picking a candidate in the primary’s is so bad.
LoL!
(I would suggest a leper's bell, but that might be a bit over-the-top.)
King is an a$5. Every member of Congress could be killed tomorrow and we would simply hold elections and elect a whole new group of losers.
Just because someone cons enough voters to elect them into a cushy job doesn’t make them special, nor better, than the rest of us.
