FYI -
Here are statements from Jim about the future of FreeRepublic.com for those who missed them. They are quite serious.
===
"Well, I can say that there are definitely two things that will never happen. 1) Banner ads. 2) Oracle [a completely new database system.] And a third is a total replacement [of the current damaged system.] Dont have the financial wherewithal."
"To those who wish to leave because of it, see ya."
"If FR dies, thats that."

Hey, you want us to get an all new system with all new software and add a few more pricey techs, system programmers and database administrators to keep it all working 100% of the time 24/7/365? Well, start coughing up the big bucks.
Its going to take tens of thousands of donations and many with at least three zeros each after the comma to accomplish the task. And that would be EVERY month like clock work to make the payroll. Once you take on a big load of expensive overhead, theres no going back. As it is, we get a couple thousand donations per quarter averaging about $30 bucks each and theres no guarantees we can cover this quarters expenses much less next quarter. Were on a pay as we go system and we have zero employees. We just ask for enough to pay the bills.
Throwing more money at the problem wont solve it. [This latest glitch] was a technical issue and we just had to keep troubleshooting until we found it. And no, were not going to invite a bunch of strangers in to get their hands on our secure systems. John has been programming since he was 14 and hes pushing 40 now. He built these systems and hes an expert in them.
And no, we are not going to throw out our software and rewrite it and no were not going to move on to some other database system. There are no guarantees that any other system can do a better job and not without hiring a staff to build and maintain it and thats for sure. And we dont have the financial wherewithal to do any of that anyway. Maybe if we had a couple million bucks at our disposal and a couple years to do it in we could build an iron-clad system. And maybe not.
All I can say is, if someone else can do it better and cheaper, then please step right on up and get er done!! Ill bow out and retire. Thankyouverymuch.
Hit it boys:

And no, we have no plans of taking FR commercial. I like it the way it is. Not sure I could handle getting rich.

lol!
There are some good articles on the net that you could review and give to him.
Most men feel extremely pressured to earn a good living; keep the wife happy; keep the boss happy; stay healthy; provide for the kids . . .
failing to understand that
THEMSELVES—TIME, AFFECTION, LISTENING
are more valuable than a LOT of other things, to the child . . . and to enabling the child to succeed, feel worthwhile and stay out of prison.
I’ve been known to tell some clueless parents that they were doing an excellent job of preparing their kids for prison.
We provide a link to such a company on our home page as a public service. FReeper Stuff is operated by one of our early FReepers (seekingthetruth) and he provides several products with our name and logo. It’s a separate entity and we do not own it nor do we collect any proceeds or commissions from it. It’s all his business.
AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!
I bet Sidebar Moderator agrees with THAT!
From reading your posts, I don't see the not willing to jump on the Palin bandwagon as your problem but more like you tend to push RINOs. IMHO, the reason you're giving for not donating is crap.
AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!
Though I think JimRob’s candor helped tremendously.
IMHO, I REALLY miss the “# of page views” thingee.
Is that feature on the “dead” server?? It really gave more of an indication of FR traffic and thread subject interest and selection.
I think that more people are just reading. FR is the place for news and several angles of it. There have been a lot of piecemeal articles on that kid that shot all those people in Az and Freepers have put together a “picture” of him. You can’t get that elsewhere.
“Hell” yeah we agree! ;)
A brief monthly newsletter-type thread keeping us up-to-date on status would be useful and interesting, too.
INDEED. and, it could easily nudge loose a few more regular donors.
OMGosh! LOLOL!!!
We do our best to stay out of trouble while maximizing our freedom to post and quote as much material as we need to document and criticize the biased reporting of current events and make our point. And that falls squarely under non-commercial fair use. It’s also the original purpose of FR. Have been threatened many times, but actually sued for copyright infringement only twice. Settled both suits without bankrupting FR, made adjustments and moved on.
ABSOLUTELY INDEED.
Though we seem to have a lot of 2 year old moths who are addicted to flames and then love to scream unholy bloody murder about the heat.
Sheesh.
Was it this one?
I consistently say to vote for the most conservative possible in the primary and then vote for the most conservative in the general--that will always be the Republican. Never, never allow a Democrat to have an office if it can be prevented.
I absolutely reject the mindset that unless the Republican is perfect, we allow the Democrat to have the seat.
Sir, i DO think FReepers would be very happy to buy hats tee-shirts, mugs, keychains, anything, you name it with an FR logo in it to help out and show the flag to the public as proud FReepers...

I still have my FR tshirt with my handle on it that I got years and years and years ago. And, yes, I still proudly wear it.
The view thing was kind of misleading. Every time you refreshed to see if there were any new posts, the view count would rise. Now, multiply that by 50 people checking the thread for new replies every couple of minutes and you can see how it is a poor indicator of anything. jmo
