FYI -
Here are statements from Jim about the future of FreeRepublic.com for those who missed them. They are quite serious.
===
"Well, I can say that there are definitely two things that will never happen. 1) Banner ads. 2) Oracle [a completely new database system.] And a third is a total replacement [of the current damaged system.] Dont have the financial wherewithal."
"To those who wish to leave because of it, see ya."
"If FR dies, thats that."

Hey, you want us to get an all new system with all new software and add a few more pricey techs, system programmers and database administrators to keep it all working 100% of the time 24/7/365? Well, start coughing up the big bucks.
Its going to take tens of thousands of donations and many with at least three zeros each after the comma to accomplish the task. And that would be EVERY month like clock work to make the payroll. Once you take on a big load of expensive overhead, theres no going back. As it is, we get a couple thousand donations per quarter averaging about $30 bucks each and theres no guarantees we can cover this quarters expenses much less next quarter. Were on a pay as we go system and we have zero employees. We just ask for enough to pay the bills.
Throwing more money at the problem wont solve it. [This latest glitch] was a technical issue and we just had to keep troubleshooting until we found it. And no, were not going to invite a bunch of strangers in to get their hands on our secure systems. John has been programming since he was 14 and hes pushing 40 now. He built these systems and hes an expert in them.
And no, we are not going to throw out our software and rewrite it and no were not going to move on to some other database system. There are no guarantees that any other system can do a better job and not without hiring a staff to build and maintain it and thats for sure. And we dont have the financial wherewithal to do any of that anyway. Maybe if we had a couple million bucks at our disposal and a couple years to do it in we could build an iron-clad system. And maybe not.
All I can say is, if someone else can do it better and cheaper, then please step right on up and get er done!! Ill bow out and retire. Thankyouverymuch.

And no, we have no plans of taking FR commercial. I like it the way it is. Not sure I could handle getting rich.

Same here. I dont like the gay thing at all...I'll go out of my way to avoid them, but it was the site owner's general attitude on the threads that kept me from donating $200. There are civil ways to go about "purging", and that was about as uncivil as they come.
Congrats to you, in one day your thread has generated over double that had been collected in 11 days.
Yes, news of that has been all over FR in the last few months. Still - I see all these other sites up and running with links, excerpts, and banner advertising. Somehow, they're doing it. It would be interesting to know how they're dealing with issues related to that.
This.
And seriously...no edit button?? What the hell?

My contribution droplet on its way later today.
BTW I seem to remember an emblem like a gold police badge with - if I remember correctly - the designation of “Freeper Patrol” or something similar.
I saved it among thousands of pictures and cannot find it.
THIS would make a terrific graphic to put on FR T-shirts One format a small one over the heart or a large one on the chest.
I will try to find it on AntiMullah where it was posted years ago but someone might have it more readily on hand and post it for everyone to see.
It could be posted for sale by Freepers who have blogs or access to blogs giving FR as the order point.
“If you cannot do it yourself you become a consultant” so here I am consulting. (smile)
Define ‘my brand’. I don’t have a ‘brand’ of salvation. Biblical Salvation isn’t a ‘brand’.
But you are correct at my goal to get people out of Mormonism.
Raised it from $6 a month to $20!!!!!!!!!
Well, I'm very glad that I posted the thread but I think we have sort of an "It's A Wonderful Life" scenario here - people heard that Jim and Free Republic were in trouble and they came out of the woodwork to help.
If today helps prove that FR is worth preserving for the future and handing down to the next generation then I'll be very happy indeed. :0)
In the midst of a heated argument, how many trolls would come back and change what they said? Now they live or die by their posts.
Front page of Free Republic.
I'm with you on this one. Absolutely no "take-backs" or "do-overs." Live or die by your words.
Here's a Syncro version from many years ago ...
Well, let me be the first to respond by saying,
"We ain't leaving. No way, no how."
And with that,
A brief monthly newsletter-type thread keeping us up-to-date on status would be useful and interesting, too.
