Despite mounting concerns about his bizarre and disturbing behavior, local mental health authorities in Pima County, Ariz. said Monday that no one reported any concerns to them about Tucson mass shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner.
Loughner is accused of shooting 20 people on Saturday, killing six and wounding 14, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D).
"To the best of our knowledge, he was never and is currently not enrolled in our system," said Neal Cash, president of the Community Partnership of Southern Arizona, the organization that provides mental health services to Tucson and Pima County for the state.
The majority of the people they serve are on Medicare, Cash said, but anyone diagnosed with a serious mental illness would be in their system and eligible for services. Despite severe cutbacks in the state mental health budget as a result of the foreclosure crisis and recession - Cash estimates around $50 million has been cut in the last two fiscal years - he said that no one diagnosed seriously mentally ill has been turned down for services.

True. However, I don't think an Involuntary Commitment for Evaluation is affected by this as it is for a very short period of time. So far the evidence says that Loughner was never even in the system.
There is a lack of funding of public Mental Health facilities. However, I would imagine most, if not all, evaluations are done via private clinics who then bill the state. Another reason why Loughner would have been seen had an Involuntary Committal ever been done.
Let me throw you a curve. We all know there is no shortage of mental health facilities that are funded by private dollars to include insurance dollars. Loughner was, what, 22? If we even assume for a minute that his dad was unemployed, rumor is that his mom was a public employee. So the family had health insurance. Obamacare new rules say that junior should have been covered to age 26, student or not.
JUNIOR HAD INSURANCE!!
Well, he is a cop, after all.
In California, the Sheriff apparently signs for a gun purchase and C&C permit.
Each state may be different.
The police were called to remove him from campus 5 times!!! So they did have contact with him and if he was having a psychotic episode in the classroom surely the police witnessed it and there are police reports.
Sounds like the sheriff has blood on his hands.
Very good, Luke!
It has been posted on FR that Jared’s dad, Randy Loughner, works for the State of Arizona’s Child Protective Services.
(I do not know if this is a fact.)
This would certainly explain why the Sheriff would be under the impression Jared was being treated, something we may find out is not true.
They pulled the FB right away....there is no way in the world he did not have a FB acct. You will be able to see his “likes”.
What the lying fool sheriff does know, he isn’t saying, because his lawyers told him not to. The multitude of things he doesn’t know, like whether the nutjob shooter ever listened to talk radio, he won’t shut up about.
People died ..... Sheriff Dupnik lied.
When the college kicked him out he and his parents were told not to step foot on campus without documentation from mental health that he was no longer a danger to himself or others.
The dipshit sheriff said himself that he had made several death threats so somebody dropped the ball big time.
At some point these parents should be coming forward to apologize for their son’s behavior!!!??? That is usually the correct and heartfelt thing to do. But, so far there are no interviews with them. I think they will be kept
hidden for awhile, because they know what troubles they have had with the mental health system. The ACLU allows
people to get out after 72 hours and they never really
get the help that they need. Because these nut cases think
nothing is wrong with “them” - it’s everybody else in the world that has the problem. It’s a catch 22.
I agree, and don’t hold ANY confidence in a law enforcement officer that publicly states he will not uphold the law.
The point being if this man is culpable to this assasination attempt the full fury of the law should be TARGETED (yes, TARGETED) at him, even more because he is a law enforcement officer.
Wasnt his mother a county employee?
Is the stupid Sheriff the father of the gay psycho?
If the patient receives good medical care, has a good support system, and wants to be well, he is taught how to recognize the signs of oncoming mental illness, how to avoid triggers, how to care for oneself, etc.
Well, the kid was kicked out of his college algebra class for his bizarre behavior early in the semester and subsequently kicked off campus and told that he could not return until he received psychiatric evaluation. Did I get that info right? But unfortunately it did not go any further.
“Sounds like the sheriff has blood on his hands.”
Yes, especially if it is true that he ignored the previous threats that folks received from the killer and did NOTHING!
I hope this is fully investigated and that those who received threats come forward! Instead of talking about gun control and stopping free speech, they need to talk about why the Sheriff didn’t pick this guy up after he threatened people!
