ABC News: Michele Bachmann Considering Presidential Bid

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is considering running for the Republican nomination for president in 2012, ABC News reported Wednesday.

The third-term lawmaker, who formed the Tea Party Caucus last year, is making her third trip to Iowa in eight months. She will seek advice from local party leaders, as well as speak at a Jan. 21 fundraiser for Iowans for Tax Relief political action committee.

Should she run, Bachmann would join a field of candidates that could include four former governors — Mike Huckabee (Ark.), Sarah Palin (Alaska), Tim Pawlenty (Minn.) and Mitt Romney (Mass.) — as well as Sen. John Thune (S.D.), Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.) and former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.), all of whom are rumored to be weighing bids.

“John Bolton?”

I very much admire John Bolton too. For a second he got lost in the shuffle.

Sorry.

Once again, someone I like very much, but also someone who needs more grooming.

She could conceivably run for VP, but I don’t think we could afford a two-woman ticket.

There are a number of solid conservatives being talked about this time, unlike the last race where there really was no realistic conservative choice. The downside is that many of them need more experience and more national visibility first.

If you jump in too soon and lose, it’s liable to cook your future political career, which would be very unfortunate.

Plus she doesn’t have high negatives.

Which is why she'd do better than Palin in a general election - Bachmann could win NH, which Palin wouldn't be able to pull off - but I see neither of them making it that far. Both would run into the GOP machine, though Tea Party donations could trump that. Romney and Huckabee won't make it that far either, for all the obvious reasons. I can see the successful candidate working the ground between, one without all the negative baggage that Bachmann and Palin have from their outspokenness, one who can actually inspire voters, unlike the perennial candidates.

I like her, but don’t think she brings to the table what Jim Demint brings.

I’d go Demint over Bachmann any day.

I would be the best president of all.

On day one after my inauguration I would order the Army to deport all illegals deep into Mexico to cost them money to get back.

On day 2 , I would go to the Offices of the EPA , with the Amy, FBI, Attorney General and seize all documents , investigate and arrest everyone of those criminals and do everything in my power to dismantle the EPA.

Day 3 same as above for the FCC and so on with the FDA, dept of Energy etc.

Then I'd as Congress to write a law that sunsets the laws that authorize these agencies like the EPA,FCC,FEC etc.

Then cut government regulations and taxes on private businesses, repeal pro-union laws, repeal anti-business laws etc.

That's just for starters.

Get this plan to Bachman, Palin or whoever is running If I don't make it.

I see you put that "realistic" qualifier in there. As you well know, there were a number of SOLID conservatives running last time, but the alleged conservatives couldn't fall over themselves fast enough to tear them down.

Watch for the buzz words, sure to come fast and furiously not long from now:

electable
name recognition and notoriety
prior executive experience
must “look” presidential
a senator or congressman simply can’t get elected, or rarely do
communication skills

I like it. A lot!

I would have been very happy with Pence as well- but it appears he’s going the governor route first.

I love DeMint and Bachman...gutsy folks:)

I’ve pulled the lever for her as my Rep. I’d do it again for her if she ran for POTUS.

DeMint/Bachmann would be an excellent ticket. I’m glad Bachmann is looking to throw her name in the hat. She will add substance to the debates. She’ll gain name recognition, and perhaps a VP nomination. She’ll run well in Iowa and even NH.
