William Scott Ritter Jr., a former United Nations weapons inspector who gained renown for his criticism of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, contends his online sexual encounters with teenage girls were only fantasy.
Nearly two years ago, Ritter, of Delmar, watched his computer screen reveal that an anonymous person who had been exchanging sexually charged messages with him for 80 minutes was not a 15-year-old girl.
It was a cop from a small town in northeast Pennsylvania, alone in his station house and trolling the Internet for suspected child predators.
Ryan Venneman, a detective for the Barrett Township Police Department in Monroe County, had enough after Ritter allegedly transmitted streaming video of himself…

BARRETT TWP – A judge has ruled that prior allegations of solicitation may be used in an upcoming trial of former United Nations Iraq Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter, accused of online solicitation of minors. Ritter’s trial is scheduled to begin in Monroe County in March.
Ritter, 49, of Delmar NY, allegedly exchanged several messages with an undercover Barrett Township Police detective posing as a teenage girl.
It was the third time Ritter faced such allegations. Two prior incidents, in New York, were never prosecuted, but according to media reports, a judge has ruled that those prior incidents may be brought up during the pending trial.
Ritter, arrested in 2009, remains free on $25,000 bail.
Just to be technical about it the cops were not victims.
I think it's extraordinarily unlikely he only did this on three or four occasions and happened to be talking to cops every time. There have to have been real teenage girls who responded to his advances.
Is he on a sex offender list? Why hasn't he been charged with felonies before now, doing time or still having contact with his children?

Wasn’t this the same guy who was a darling on the right during the Clinton years? He was one of the few (maybe the only) weapons inspectors who was exposing (bad choice of words, I know) the Saddam regime during that time. I vaguely remember his sudden flip to the dark side.

I wonder what Saddam’s Iraq had on Ritter? He was very against the Iraq War and made dire predictions about US prospects in the War. He was as bad as any.
He did make mention of the weapon stockpiles that Saddam had, and continued to have after Saddam kicked out the inspectors.
Then, after the 2003 liberation of Iraq, Ritter suddenly turned around and denied everything he had previously said.
