(CNN) -- The Federal Communications Commission is set to
vote Tuesday on a set of regulations designed to ensure that internet providers grant everyone equal access to the Web.
The "net neutrality" rules, proposed by the Obama administration, would be the government's biggest foray yet into one of the Web's fiercest debates.
In announcing the proposed rules earlier this month, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said they would require high-speed internet providers to treat all types of Web content equally.

An exercise in futility which has already been ruled against by the SCOTUS. The new Congress is going to bring the heat.

We tried it the little people’s way.
And we found they can’t be trusted to say the right things.
So we’re going to be taking those rights until you learn how to handle them.
Now pay your taxes, we need raises. :)

The more I read on this, the more disconcerted I become. So many issues rise to fore. There is the government's poor enforcement of anti-monopoly legislation. There is the government's control of a media outlet. There is the end of anonymity on the Internet. There is the elimination of competition from small business on the Internet. This is a big deal. If ever there was a time to stack the deck in government with George Washington conservatives, now is it. There never was a time for compromise when it comes to the ideals our Founders had with this nation. But we experimented with compromise anyway and it has failed us miserably. The time for compromise is over. It's time to Tea Party again.

In April, a Federal Appeals Court issued a ruling in favor of Comcast against the FCC, saying the FCC has no power to stop Comcast from managing its network however it likes, in the absence of specific expansion of it’s power by Congress. You can read that ruling here:
pacer.cadc.uscourts.gov/common/opinions/201004/08-1291-1238302.pdf
So now Genachowski is trying the same thing all over again, and without the approval of Congress. This will head straight to court, and may well end up in front of SCOTUS. What a waste of taxpayer money.
Fortunately, the new House can and will block any expansion of FCC power. What needs to happen is the House should start hearings on elimination of the FCC.

The pro-govt types see something excellent and their natural impulse is to wreck something unbroken. After the court decision, the FCC is leaning on some un-natural distinction between wireline and wireless even though a) all internet is unwired at some point and b) all wireless will soon be IP based. Nothing but a power grab and soon the internet will run like the DMV. It was a good run.

I remember every time the congress passed a law that “would lower your cable bill.”
Every time our bill went up.
To: Celtic Cross
Obama insists he has the right to do this through the FCC. And for some unknown reason that I haven’t heard about yet, our electric bill just went up almost 17%, what the heck?

No state likes free anonymous, speech. None. Even the founding Father's took aim against it a few years after the Constitution was written.
And to many states see all the state sales tax that is gone from Internet sales, and want their cut. No matter who got elected, the days of the free wheeling internet are numbered.
