North Korea has deployed multiple rocket launchers along the shore north of Yeonpyeong, Baeknyeong and Gangwha islands in response to a planned South Korean artillery drill on Yeonpyeong, government sources here say. The North earlier threatened an "unpredicted self-defense counterattack" to the drills.
A South Korean government source said, "After making the threat in a message sent Friday, North Korea raised the alert level at artillery divisions on the west coast and deployed the multiple rocket launchers."
The North also reportedly made coastal artillery ready to fire and put some fighter jets on the west coast on standby.

SK media just reported that
UN Security Council failed to reach an agreement over what kind of resolution it adopts regarding the current N. Korean situation. I think it’s “all go” for the exercise.
Now that's a standing headline.
Drill due to start within the next 1 to 3 hours.
I still think there is a chance this will get delayed...
“This is bulls#it.
Obama is president, Not Bushie. Is the Simpsons on yet?”
-Obama drone
Yeah but it seems it will have to be a delay that saves face on both sides....
Update: SK says the live fire will begin in about 90 minutes. The island residents have been ordered to the bunkers.
Put a couple of diaper wearing queer battalions on the island, have them ride around on unicycles like the do in Hollywood. The North Koreans will see them and laugh themselves to death....
If that's the case, then what are the odds that China will stay out of it, particularly if the south appears to be winning?

I agree.
After hearing the latest news of failure at the UN to reach any kind of agreement I think its looking even less likely the drill will be called off.
In a couple of hours we will know if NK was bluffing or not.
Hold on to your hats. This could get very messy, very quickly.
Walter Sharp, Commander of US force in SK and Kathleen Stevens visited President Lee on Dec. 18 to confirm his intention to go ahead with the exercise. Lee said yes.

About 10 N. Korean soldiers(including an officer) were seen casing the large Christmas tree which is scheduled to be lit tomorrow. This is a tree located on the South side of DMZ. If NK responds, it could be one of the target NK would be aiming for.
The Norks know that the US is good for a few billion dollars since they know that zer0 doesn’t want to stay behind and miss Hawaii for Christmas. Just pay them off and go on vacation. That’s what he’ll do...
Susan Rice seems pessimistic as well if you watched the presser......
China depends on all the crap they sell to the west.
Why endanger that for the nuts in NorKor?
It’s sort of like when we ditched the French and British over Suez
SK drill is due to start 70 minutes from now and will last for 1 hour.
Drill, baby Drill...
To keep US-allied military and intelligence units off their border.
” If that’s the case, then what are the odds that China will stay out of it, particularly if the south appears to be winning? “
Here’s a repost of a speculation I posted on this topic a few days ago — haven’t seen anything to invalidate it, yet....
Ive been getting more and more uncomfortable with all of the speculation, of late, on what China *should* do to resolve this situation, to *our* satisfaction - so Ive spent the past couple of days trying to look at the cards from what might be the Chinese perspective...
And Ive come to a startling conclusion
In an armed conflict between NK and SK, China comes out as the BIG WINNER - by doing precisely nothing....
The US is in an untenable position - our options, in case of hostilities, are to
a)abandon - sacrifice - the 30,000 troops-in-place, renege on long-standing defense agreements, and withdraw from the area in which case, the US is finished as a World Power...
or
b) Honor our treaty obligations, and commit a tremendous amount of blood and treasure (neither of which we can afford) to the war effort - which will, at the very least, weaken the US to the point of insignificance, if not bring down our Government completely.....
Either way, while the military outcome of any such war is a foregone conclusion, it will inevitably leave the entire Korean Peninsula as a devastated area, with only China left with the resources to rebuild....
So, by remaining aloof, the entire SE Asia theater - and, more significantly, market - comes under Chinese sway without any more troop committment than it would take to control the oft-mentioned refugee problem.....
No wonder theyre not doing what they should to calm things down - I really dont think they see any downside for them in conflict in the Koreas......
They're joking right? Maybe they think it's food..
