A Gay Commander in Chief: Ready or Not?
The New York Times ^ | 18 Dec 2010 | MAUREEN DOWD

Posted on 12/19/2010 9:15:21 AM PST by mandaladon

Jimmy Carter is putting the out in outspokenness.

In an interview with bigthink.com, the former president was asked, “Is the country ready for a gay president?”

Even as John McCain and other ossified Republicans were staging last-minute maneuvers to torpedo the “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal, the 86-year-old Carter was envisioning a grander civil rights victory.

“I would say that the answer is yes,” he said. “I don’t know about the next election, but I think in the near future.”

The news that Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer will smooch in an upcoming movie about J. Edgar Hoover and his aide Clyde Tolson — buried near each other in the Congressional Cemetery on Capitol Hill — is a reminder of an “Advise and Consent” Washington where being a closeted gay official made you vulnerable to blackmail.

Others feel we’re not ready for a gay president, citing the fear and loathing unleashed by the election of the first black president. “Can you imagine how much a gay president would have to overcompensate to please the macho ninnies who control our national debate?” Bill Maher told me. “Women like Hillary have to do it, Obama had to do it because he’s black and liberal, but a gay president? He’d have to nuke something the first week.”

I called Barney Frank, assuming the gay pioneer would be optimistic. He wasn’t. “It’s one thing to have a gay person in the abstract,” he said. “It’s another to see that person as part of a living, breathing couple. How would a gay presidential candidate have a celebratory kiss with his partner after winning the New Hampshire primary? The sight of two women kissing has not been as distressful to people as the sight of two men kissing.”

Thanks for the verification. Why anyone even listens to what Jimmah C. says anymore is beyond me.

We have to be careful here. Despite the swirling rumors and hearsay of the day, there's no solid evidence that President Buchanan was gay. In fact, it's said that after his former fiance took her own life he vowed never to marry which is why he was a lifelong bachelor.

This may be another re-write of history by liberal academic authors and other propagandists who want it to appear that having a homosexual president is normal.....so we should all just lie back and enjoy Barry if he's gay, "also".

I think that George W. Bush will go down in history as the last white, male, heterosexual President the US ever had. I’ve heard it said that from now on, every Presidential ticket will look like an anchor team on the nightly news (anything but two white males.) Both parties must now try to outdo each other with diversity and tolerance. Wait and see.

The lifetime Chicago Gay bath house memeberships of Obama and Rahm Emanuel, and other indicators, make it obvious that we currently HAVE a Gay CIC - perhaps with DADT repealed, he can come out now: It would be the height of hypocracy if he did not.

I think Carter mis-spoke: what the country is REALLY ready for is for a certain ex-CIC, age 86, to assume room temperature from long overdue natural causes. I think the citizenry is truly lusting for it in their hearts.

“We are going down the sewer fast”

There are consequences to repeal of DADT.

Will soldiers still be quite so willing to die to preserve a society that enshrines mass abortion and same sex relationships as civil rights?

What the heck is there to be “proud” about based on who you sleep with? Or, for that matter, your race or gender?

I’m so sick of this stuff.

I suspect one reason Obamao is so squirrelly right now is because his honey Rahm is away. He picked the wrong time to quit stroki... smoking.

“The preponderance of the evidence clearly shows that James Buchanan had a long-term homosexual relationship with William Rufus King”

Based on a quick reading of this article, seems like historians are not sure about Buchanan. http://www.tompaine.com/Archive/scontent/2458.html

Obama didn't push to repeal DADT because of his manly testosterone level.

Didn't you read my # 22?

I stated that there's no evidence Pres. Buchanan was gay. Just because Bill O'Bloviator stated it as a fact doesn't make it so. In fact, because he said so, I'm inclined to believe the opposite, LOL.

Actually, BO'R is again protecting his hero, Obummer, in this "gay president/Buchanan" issue.

“We have already had a gay President. I guess we were ready back in 1857, when James Buchanan moved into the Whitehouse.”

James Buchanan may have been a homosexual; I don’t know. But gay is something that came about as part of Marxist theory. The communists envisioned a perfect world where people had babies and turned them over to the state to raise. Recall that the Nazis and the Soviets had crèches to raise babies on an assembly line. I’m sure you’ve seen the newsreel footage of nurses diapering baby after baby. The intent was to break the family and make everybody homosexual except for their state duty of having babies. The babies would be molded by the state into perfect citizens.

When I was in the classified environment the FBI showed us lists of organizations being financed by the KGB. One whole class was anybody pushing gay anything. Included on that list was President Obama’s boyhood mentor Frank Davis under The Hawaiian Communist Party. The KGB was doing this because these nascent political organizations were all about undoing anything American; including the family.

As I mentioned in a posting on repealing DADT, you can be a conservative homosexual, but you can’t be a conservative gay. One is sexually attracted to the same sex. The other is making a “lifestyle choice” and a political statement. The entire idea behind “gay” (the political sexuality) is to destroy anything smacking of the America’s fundamental building block; the family.

It’s interesting that Dowd refers to McCain as “ossified,” but Jimmy Carter is apparently a young, vigorous opinion leader.
