I agree with him, doesnt Congress have better things to do...You mean passing the Scream Act?
To: LIBERTARIAN JOE
When you see a congressional vote go 402-1, you can assume that 402 of them voted the wrong way
A more perfect statement of contrariness would be hard to find.

. . . doesnt Congress have better things to do...Right now, the nation would be far better served if the current congress was occupied exclusively with harmless matters of this nature.
I hope they will carefully discuss and debate on a resolution to make the honeybee our national insect next.

Ron Paul is right. I'm not paying my tax dollars for what the press release type of meaningless declarations that are in all practicality meaningless. In these kind of issues the American people have many ways to speak as a people. Stick to needed business. restoring Liberty and Justice IN AMERICA would be far more effective in helping this Chinese seeker of justice than a trillion of these empty -- but expensive in record keeping -- feel-good resolutions. Bingo. We didn't hire them to pass 'touchy-feely' resolutions.

Let's turn this around. Instead of asking Dr. Paul to justify himself, how about the rest of you justifying the waste of taxpayer dollars on an unconstitutional waste of time?
Congressmen can give their opinions on topics such as Nobel laureates any time, and the media will give them plenty of attention doing it. But tying up our government resources with this sort of thing is a symptom of what's wrong with our bloated system. Let's hammer the wastrels and get them to justify themselves, or else stick to the proper functions of government as per the Constitution. Lord knows they need to...

I’m with Ron Paul on this one.
If the Nobel Committee has become just another lefty political hack organization, and clearly they have, as demonstrated when they picked Barack Obama in 2009, then we have no business approving when they pick somebody we like the next year.
We should not be propping these idiots up. What will we say next year when they pick Julian Assange for the prize?

Not in the Constitution, I'm pretty sure.
But if one could examine James Madison's copy of Vattel (in the original French, of course), maybe one might find that Old Jimmy had underlined a passage saying something to the effect that such resolutions "shall be deemed meet and proper" -- whether or not the putative honoree should be a natural-born citizen.

As much as I support the Chinese dissident who will be honored by the Nobel committee, I think such symbolic acts by the U.S. Congress are a waste of time.
Certainly this “lame duck” session has more important matters of material worth to American citizens that it could focus its time and attention to.
That said, if instead they were legislating a special grant of political asylum for him, that would have actually been doing something real.

How about the budget, did they somehow just forget about that?

I swear, if you held a gun to the head of every Congress thing and ordered them to say "I don't know, that's none of my business, and certainly not clearly defined as one of the Federal government's enumerated powers" or you'd shoot them, you'd have Ron Paul left standing in a room full of bodies.

If they don't pass a budget, they don't get paid, and the FedGov shuts down.
Actually, I'm kinda ok with that prospect. :-)

Well gosh!
If congress were to stop doing things that are not authorized in the constitution, they sure wouldn’t be doing much.

To be honest I don’t much about this meaningless vote that you are pointing out in order to trash Paul. I will tell you this though. I have more respect for Ron Paul then most of the House members. Although I do not agree with all his positions, he is not afraid to speak his mind unlike the rest.
