Police say WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has surrendered to British police as part of a Swedish sex-crimes investigation, the latest blow to the secret-spilling website that faces legal, financial and security challenges.
Assange was arrested at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and was due to appear at Westminster Magistrate's Court later in the day.
A WikiLeaks spokesman said the arrest is an attack on media freedom won't stop the group.
Assange has been hiding out at an undisclosed location in Britain since WikiLeaks began publishing hundreds of U.S. diplomatic cables on the Internet last week.
The organization's room for maneuver is narrowing by the day. It has been battered by web attacks, cut off by Internet service providers and is the subject of a criminal investigation in the United States, where officials say the release jeopardized national security and diplomatic efforts around the world.
It’s amazing how these things work out “after the fact”...
The crime wasn’t important enough to hunt him down until after he posted US classified intelligence all over the Internet...
Iw onder if he will serve time and what the punishment will be...and it will have nothing to do with how the victim has dealt with the crime committed against her...
Next up....eating babies, drowning puppies, peeing in public....
His “crime” according to headlines on Drudge was to sabotage a condom he was wearing.
The sabotage was alleged. Seems pretty farfetched, and of course unprovable.
It's really more interesting that there are places you can be arrested for having sex without a condom - a hyperliberal practice that is sure to spread. WHO will be the first Catholic into the grinder?
Popcorn ;).
“Iw onder if he will serve time and what the punishment will be.”
I do not know what sex crime he committed in Sweden, or what the law and punishment might be.
We do not know if, or what US crime he committed.
Whatever, it is a real can of worms, and one can only speculate as to how it will affect life on Earth :>
I really can’t distinguish Assange from the NYTimes and others outlets which routinely divulge any and all secrets they get their hands on regardless and heedless of impact and damage. It is just this is one little guy they can bully and carp about. The real traitor here is a USArmy private who by being “Gay” has all the PC cred to slip the noose.
I don’t care if the charges are trumped up. THe man is a sleezy leftist whose sole desire is to destroy the US. Arrest is too kind for people like him and his associates.
You are high on emotions and low on logic.
Low on logic? He purchased stolen property, he sales intelligence to other countries, to individuals. He practices no basic journalistic tenents such as protecting names and information or redactions. The man is an anti-American activist. His actions are likely to cost or has cost the lives of American assets in Afghanistan. Sorry but the man is pure scum. You can sit there and defend him all you want. I won’t. The first amendment does not apply to people like him.
The song by Paquita La del Barrio.... “La Ultima Parada” should be investigated here.
Assange is not a nice or honorable person. Perhaps one or BOTH of the women are intelligence operatives to get this thing rolling.
Yup... welcome to the wonderful world of ANARCHY!!! It’s the new normal.
Line up a firing squad at dawn.
He’s not being charged or held on any of those crimes.
If you deny the letter of the law to him, wait until it’s your turn.
He is not even American. You are being emotional. The person to go after is the one who stole the documents, not the owner of every website on which it was put up. According to your arguments, JimRob should be in trouble if someone quotes from cablegate documents.
BTW, if a document does not jeopardize the security of individuals and does not give operational details about the military, but simply provides the details of the shenanigans of Hillary Clinton and others like her, it is actually a great service to America.

If put in a boxing ring with him and made to fight, I think it would turn into a scratching contest.
I am admittedly surprised that Assange was accused by women.
