Seoul, South Korea: Last week's deadly attack on Yeonpyeong island has escalated military and diplomatic tensions on the Korean Peninsula, and for some in the South Korean capital, Seoul, there is an increasing fear of North Korean retaliation.
Hence, evacuation centres were being prepared in the city on Monday, amidst mounting tensions.
There are 3919 emergency shelters across Seoul - many are housed in subway stations or underground carparks.
According to local officials, evacuation shelters can be easily reached by everyone within five minutes and can accommodate more than 20 million people.

Um...It may seem a minor point, but...
North Korea attacks South Korea and then “there is an increasing fear of North Korean retaliation”?
REALLY?
What is South Korea supposed to have done to deserve ‘retaliation’?
The North ATTACKED the South.
There should be fears of ADDITIONAL UNPROVOKED ATTACKS !!!
Those North Korean artillery installations must be tactical nuked NOW!
No, it was that woman that Hill! is coming more and more to resemble, Madeleine Albright.
Are the SK libs still holding large ‘Yankee go home’ demonstrations like they were a few years ago?
Or do they rather like that the Yanks are still around?
Umm, the Republic of Korea (South Korea) has one of the largest, most capable militaries in the world. They are well-fed, well-trained, well-equipped and tough as nails.

It probably depends to the extent that Russia and China aid and support North Korea. And most of all, the fighting spirit of the South Koreans. They will be fighting for their lives ans asses, so they should be very spirited. Again, it depends whether they bought into the socialist shit that a good portion of voters over here bought into.
I got the impression that the left there thought that in “reunification”, the NK’s would suddenly see the light and everyone would just live happily ever after.
I do not believe that SK has the true will to fight NK unless things get so bad they have to do do, and you can be sure that the left in SK will be in the streets blaming the SK government and not the poor NK commies.
Again, it's been awhile since I have been there, so if someone has current knowledge, I would be interested in your take.
If your Shiner is not already iced, you are unprepared, my friend.
My son was there in the mid 90s and he did/ does not have a high opinion of SKs,period.
My brother was over there when Ford was President. He was schedled to go again in the late 80s. He retired.
I should have specified *extra* Shiner. I expect a huge turnout for the toast.
>>”Those North Korean artillery installations must be tactical nuked NOW!”
A preemptive strike may not be viable, but they SHOULD have tac nukes in the tubes of 175s, pre-aimed to take out the the massed arty just over the Z from Seoul. Unfortunately, the South has eschewed Atomic Weapons. But just having them, there, and letting the Norks know, could save their Seoul.
They wouldn’t even have to tell their own leftists.
“If Homeland S. spots an Iranian missile inbound for Boston, with impact in 25 minutes, and you tell the populacewhat can they do?”
Give them 25 min. notice so they can die in the stampede rather than the detonation.
All I see is a lot of people on the web with the slant of walking away from South Korea.
Let them handle their own problem. They were too weak to end a war and this is the harvest of poisoned fruit.
Wind today is from the ESE. Using nukes just North of the DMZ will irradiate the northern SK islands and a portion of the NW corner of the country. Much better than if it were a north wind.
I have actually been in one of these shelters. It houses an underground mall and can be reached from the lower levels of the Lotte Hotel. Very extensive shelters. Plenty of clothes and food available.
A "tactical" nuke would do no such thing - that would take a large strategic nuke.
The PRNK first stop will be any and all fuel depots in Seol; without them they don’t have 48 hours of fuel for their tanks and trucks.
Amen brother.
ROK Tiger Division has a well-earned rep of a nasty streak in them.
