A hit piece by a liberal blogger about a slip of the tongue by Sarah Palin regarding the crisis on the Korean peninsula has become an international news story that is being spun to impugn Palin's credibility as a potential presidential candidate.
Palin has been dishonestly quoted out of context in dozens of articles and broadcast reports as saying on the Glenn Beck radio show on Wednesday, "We gotta stand with our North Korean allies."
Here, in context, is what Palin actually said (transcription by Kristinn):
Glen Beck: "Sarah you said, you said in the last few days that you are considering a run for president. And uh, polls show that you would probably win the Republican nomination. How would you handle a situation like just developed in, in North Korea?"
Palin: "Well, North Korea, this is stemming from I think a greater problem when we're all sittin' around asking, "Oh no, what are we gonna do?" and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is gonna come out with a strong enough policy to, um, sanction what it is that North Korea is gonna do. So this speaks to a bigger picture here that certainly scares me in terms our national security policies. But obviously, gotta stand with our North Korean allies. We're bound to by, by treaty."
Beck: "South Korea."
Palin: "We're also bound by, yeah, we're also bound by prudence to stand with our, our South Korean allies. Yes. And, uh, you know to remind North Korea, well, we're not gonna reward bad behavior and we're not gonna walk away. And we do need to press China to do more to increase the pressure on North Korea."
The smear started with liberal blogger Oliver Willis who posted an entry with the title, AUDIO: Sarah Palin: "We Gotta Stand With Our North Korean Allies. The blog post did not transcribe Palin's interview with Beck, it just had a snarky comment, "Genius. Absolute genius. When Glenn Beck is correcting you on foreign policy, well genius."
Willis included the audio clip in his post which this transcription is based on. As can be seen, it was a simple slip of the tongue. But, because of how Willis disingenuously framed it, the slip has become "truth" to once again be used to smear Palin as ignorant of foreign affairs.
The hit piece was picked up by Mediaite, a site founded by former MSNBCer Dan Abrams, which titled their hit piece, Sarah Palin - North Korean Allies.
Mediaite also posted the audio clip. But even with the evidence that the comment was clearly a slip of the tongue, Mediaite smeared Palin as ignorant by quoting her out of context rather than publishing the entire exchange with Beck.
For good measure, Mediaite brought back a previous smear of Palin that claimed in 2008 when she was selected to be John McCain's running mate she did not know Korea was divided between North and South.
The Weekly Standard came to Palin's defense last night with a piece that chided her critics for the smear.
That did not stop the smear from going global, however. A Google News search shows nearly one hundred articles accusing Palin of not knowing that South Korea is our ally.
Wire services, broadcast networks and newspapers across America and the globe have gleefully picked up the smear.
The BBC piled on today with an article that said, "Her slip of the tongue over North Korea will provide more ammunition for critics who say she doesn't have sufficient knowledge or experience for high office."
The Times of India headlined their article, Sarah Palin's Latest Verbal Gaffe - North Korea an Ally.
It is a testament to Palin's global reach and influence that such a simple slip would garner worldwide headlines and be used by her enemies here and abroad to smear her.
However, the truth must be told and the media once more shamed for their duplicitious reporting.
Most leftist who will be repeating this attack against a good women probably still can’t find Korea on a map. The left are the most ignorant people on the planet. The danger is they don’t realize it.

No, for somebody who puts herself out as a POTUS contender her answer was very weak. It's not as if the Korean issue just popped up out of thin air. It has been around for decades and is as threatening to our security as any other potential crisis for a number of reasons.
FB postings and tweets are not substantive. Answers like the one she gave Beck ("don't reward bad behaviour") are pure fluff.
If she really wants to be taken seriously then she should step away from the mike and camera a while and study up on what's important.
it really does help her...the slip of the tongue proves she a human not a bot like obozo
“I read the transcript. It doesnt seem to make much sense even without the slip”
Granted, but when have you ever known politicians—even “rogue” ones—to make much sense?
A few seconds earlier in the very same interview, she mentions sanctioning what North Korea is doing.
The left knows this is an outrageous lie but the fact that they’re making such a deal of it makes me feel more and more that she’s the next President.
She also said we should urge China to lessen energy exports to North Korea.
We don't know those were gaffes, both of them fit a reality about the man you are defending while attacking Palin.
The 60 states thing was never corrected or explained, and it fits with things like him thinking that he was born because of, and after the 1965 Selma March. Obama seems truly ignorant of American history and other facts, Palin does not.
The Muslim statement does not fall into the category of simple gaffe either, for a person that was a Muslim, and may still be.
If only conservatives could get the support that you lavish on liberals.
I see the most dedicated trolls are collecting on this thread.
If anyone is curious about who the worst rino trolls at FR are, this little thread has several of the best known.
Your welcome. It is disrespectful to her to grade her on the curve.

And the rest is history.
Wall to wall Marxism and tyranny. The proof is in the pudding.
I agree, "57 states" was a gaffe. But I do not think the "muslim faith" was a gaffe. Something he perhaps wishes he had never said maybe.
The difference is that we quote it, but don’t really believe that he doesn’t know the real number of states. The left is quoting this in the real belief that Sarah Palin does not know the difference between North and South Korea.
You betcha!
Damn good suggestion. Palin. are you listening.
As an aside, I am reminded of another American who was not eloquent, and earned the disdain of Thomas Jefferson as he presided over the Senate and listened to Senator Andrew Jackson speak on the floor.
that is my MAIN “problem” with sarah...She does need to go to these places..a lot...Korea, japan, the Mideast, India, pakistan, etc etc.
she could still get lots of press coverage, plus start getting international knowledge, as well, as a feel for how and why thses countries and cultures think the way they do.
Krauthammer said it 2 yrs ago...she should now be spending time gaining knowledge.
Meanwhile our halfrican American emperor of reparations and all things racist tells us there are
57 states in America. Only a leftwing lunatic can ignore the one destroying America.
“Consider former Governor Reagan. He used so much of 1978 and 1979 to visit overseas for international prep., prior to engaging full time in 1980 domestically for the election. NOW is the time for Sarah to come to Asia, Korean Peninsula, Japan, etc. on these important study trips and coutesy calls at the highest level of Asian government and politics.”
This is a very good point. I hope her close advisors make the point with her.
LOL - good one.
