Media Lies About Sarah Palin Korea Comments (Global Hit on Palin)
Thursday, November 25, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on 11/25/2010 8:41:56 AM PST by kristinn

A hit piece by a liberal blogger about a slip of the tongue by Sarah Palin regarding the crisis on the Korean peninsula has become an international news story that is being spun to impugn Palin's credibility as a potential presidential candidate.

Palin has been dishonestly quoted out of context in dozens of articles and broadcast reports as saying on the Glenn Beck radio show on Wednesday, "We gotta stand with our North Korean allies."

Here, in context, is what Palin actually said (transcription by Kristinn):

Glen Beck: "Sarah you said, you said in the last few days that you are considering a run for president. And uh, polls show that you would probably win the Republican nomination. How would you handle a situation like just developed in, in North Korea?"

Palin: "Well, North Korea, this is stemming from I think a greater problem when we're all sittin' around asking, "Oh no, what are we gonna do?" and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is gonna come out with a strong enough policy to, um, sanction what it is that North Korea is gonna do. So this speaks to a bigger picture here that certainly scares me in terms our national security policies. But obviously, gotta stand with our North Korean allies. We're bound to by, by treaty."

Beck: "South Korea."

Palin: "We're also bound by, yeah, we're also bound by prudence to stand with our, our South Korean allies. Yes. And, uh, you know to remind North Korea, well, we're not gonna reward bad behavior and we're not gonna walk away. And we do need to press China to do more to increase the pressure on North Korea."

The smear started with liberal blogger Oliver Willis who posted an entry with the title, AUDIO: Sarah Palin: "We Gotta Stand With Our North Korean Allies. The blog post did not transcribe Palin's interview with Beck, it just had a snarky comment, "Genius. Absolute genius. When Glenn Beck is correcting you on foreign policy, well… genius."

Willis included the audio clip in his post which this transcription is based on. As can be seen, it was a simple slip of the tongue. But, because of how Willis disingenuously framed it, the slip has become "truth" to once again be used to smear Palin as ignorant of foreign affairs.

The hit piece was picked up by Mediaite, a site founded by former MSNBCer Dan Abrams, which titled their hit piece, Sarah Palin - North Korean Allies.

Mediaite also posted the audio clip. But even with the evidence that the comment was clearly a slip of the tongue, Mediaite smeared Palin as ignorant by quoting her out of context rather than publishing the entire exchange with Beck.

For good measure, Mediaite brought back a previous smear of Palin that claimed in 2008 when she was selected to be John McCain's running mate she did not know Korea was divided between North and South.

The Weekly Standard came to Palin's defense last night with a piece that chided her critics for the smear.

That did not stop the smear from going global, however. A Google News search shows nearly one hundred articles accusing Palin of not knowing that South Korea is our ally.

Wire services, broadcast networks and newspapers across America and the globe have gleefully picked up the smear.

The BBC piled on today with an article that said, "Her slip of the tongue over North Korea will provide more ammunition for critics who say she doesn't have sufficient knowledge or experience for high office."

The Times of India headlined their article, Sarah Palin's Latest Verbal Gaffe - North Korea an Ally.

It is a testament to Palin's global reach and influence that such a simple slip would garner worldwide headlines and be used by her enemies here and abroad to smear her.

However, the truth must be told and the media once more shamed for their duplicitious reporting.

I want to see our pool of qualified Conservative candidates grow and mature - surely you do too?

And who is in this pool of qualified conservatives? Surely, you can list them. Unless you consider DeMint and Rubio are the 'pool'.

Scott doesn't seem it's worth his time to list them - only has time to list 'his concern' about Sarah. Nothing unique about that, so does Rove, the MSM, and every liberal blogger and rino.

you often cannot have any honest open discussion

When one shows 'concern' only (what they conceive) as Sarah's flaws; and, yet, cannot name one other possible candidate that supercedes her or is comparable to her - how honest is that?

get on first name basis with world leaders,

What other prez candidate has done that? Is she running for the leader of the NWO?

If she really is intent on running for the whole enchilada year after next.

Who is qualified, according to your standards, ready to run for the whole enchilada?

personality cult ..... she’s less than a saint.

That screams of liberal talking points. That's their 'area' w/their messiah. Applying that to conservatives doesn't play. Intimidation is a tactic that only works on liberals. This is a conservative site.

“And who is in this pool of qualified conservatives? Surely, you can list them. Unless you consider DeMint and Rubio are the ‘pool’.”

As to my favorites, which hopefully doesn’t exhaust the pool, I’ve talked about DeMint, Palin, Paul Ryan, and Marco Rubio. I will add Michele Bachmann to my favorites list. Perhaps there will be a rising governor or two that will come onto my favorites list. I think Chris Christie is interesting, emotionally appealing, and quite fiscally effective in New Jersey’s situation, but probably not Conservative enough on the environment, et al, to get core Conservative support for a POTUS run. Jim Thune is interesting but just had a problematic cloture vote.

Say Presently you haven’t explained to me why you wrote I’m in the same camp as the socialist propagandist scum. Just sayin’... In fact I’ve been defending Gov. Palin on threads related to the Korean slip for days, but that didn’t preclude you from making that weird claim.

Since you haven’t had a chance to read my other posts before you made such an egregious accusation, and haven’t had a chance to explain why, I’ll quote myself on this very thread and this one: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2632741/posts?page=535#535. In future, you can read what I’ve posted by clicking on my screen name, and reading through “In Forum” - before you make accusations about me that are baseless. And thanks in advance...;)

‘“Confusing North Korea for South Korea, and not meaning it...”

Especially when it was cued up: ‘North Korea, North Korea, North Korea’...’North Korean allies’ - all within about 10 seconds.

Not a big deal.’

“She also said she believed Saddam Hussein attacked the United States on Sept. 11, 2001.”

If you read Stephen Hayes’ “Connections” you can see how Saddam Hussein had ties with Al Qaeda, and extensive ties with violent terrorism throughout the middle east. Iraq was clearly a rogue state and its Iraqi Intelligence Services and diplomatic priveleges (diplomatic pouches) were used to assist terrorist organizations and terrorists in their missions. It was all part of the ‘greater Middle East’ leadership aspirations that Saddam Hussein had.

“Sarah Palin needs to watch what she say’s.” (sic)

You mean ‘says’. But you’re right. Sarah Palin will be held to the Dan Quayle standard and not the barack obummer standard.

In her defense, she and the commentator said North Korea, 3 times before she made the mistake.

But hey the liberal wacko propagandists can just chalk it up to her being from the 57th state - a way out in the tundra.

“Now she’s done”

No she’s not - just cause she and the interviewer said ‘North Korea (correct), North Korea (correct), North Korea (correct), North Korean allies (incorrect) in the space of 10 seconds?

Does it count - see onyx post above - that Sarah Palin has oft referred to our South Korean allies in speeches not long ago?

Why and how is she ‘done’ then?

“I apologize if I’ve missed something. I’d find it humorous if Obama weren’t laughing all the way to another 4 years should the dunces nominate her.”
Who’s your choice for 2012? Very easy to tear down after a miscue. Not that easy to build up. I support DeMint, Paul Ryan, Rubio or Palin - and will defer to the wisdom and will of the American people.

“It’s up to us, in part, to defend her in this crazed, loony environment.

I think some of us aren’t relishing that task even though we KNOW that Sarah’s got our back as a Constitutional Pro-life Conservative THROUGH and THROUGH.”

“Vermont, you’re misquoting this article/Palin. Please read it again. She’s just continuing her thought from just before the interviewers interjection. She’s not saying ‘also’ in adding South to North allies, as you impute.”

“Bob, you admit it depends on the person. Palin might also have the strength of character and likeability that Reagan had. The big advantage Reagan had over Palin was being a favorite resident of California (favorite son of sorts). However Palin holds a star power that imitates the star power of Reagan, imho.

She’s also not a dunce by any means. No one runs and beats Murkowski for Governor in AK who’s a dunce. That’s just simply untrue.”

“Candor, I must say this is a great defense of Sarah Palin. I am bookmarking for later reference and citing. I don’t know if Sarah Palin with be elected POTUS, but if she gets the Republican nomination, I will be front and center behind her in liberal infested Seattle, WA.”

All that and you didn’t mention the name or names who supercedes or is comparable to Sarah. It’s obvious no one can do that.

Just a list of some of your favorite names - and nothing how they compare to Sarah or how ‘flawless’ they are to you.

All you’ve done is post threads of where you supposedly defended Sarah to defend yourself. I like her but posts are a dime a dozen.

There you go...cherry-picking my comments and spinning to a conclusion not even remotely near the truth. Isn`t that what the media is doing to Palin? Perhaps secretly you`re good with idea of Palin being set up to fail.

I have donated to Sarah`s PAC, traveled two hours to hear her speak, and have defended her repeatedly in countless forums. However, if I see a weakness, I`m going to point it out..and I don`t give two sh*ts whether I have the term "concern troll" thrown my way. I am a Palin supporter...but I drink kool-aid for no one.

“It’s obvious no one can do that.”

Arguably Jim DeMint had as much or more impact as Sarah Palin on this past election in the Senate - and certainly wields more practical power than Palin as the earmark ban proves. That is not a slam on Sarah Palin in any way - even if you weirdly spin it to be such.

“where you supposedly defended Sarah”

There's no ‘supposedly’ about it, if you can read and comprehend English. You haven't supported your specious claim that I'm in the same camp as the enemedia. Why don't you do that and quit attacking the home team?

“and nothing how they compare to Sarah or how ‘flawless’ they are to you.”

That’s because no one is flawless - which has been by defense of Gov. Palin all along!

Between you and me Presently, who’s talking about ‘flawless’ anybody? For crying out loud, you’re quoting Scripture and so do I in our taglines - I would assume you believe in the people’s sinfulness, as do I.

Further you and I and Sarah Palin and Jim DeMint are all sinners saved by the grace of God should we receive it.

Jim DeMint is no perfect person - having supported Mitt Romney in 2008. I sure hope he’s changed that weird tune - even though granted we had very few, if any, decent choices last time, and voting for McCain was only redeeemed by Sarah Palin on the ticket, as we all know.

Now please put to rest this double standard that you seem to think those of us who support, care about and would vote for Gov. Palin have, simply because we don’t agree with you on every last iota of your viewpoints, as it’s getting quite annoying.

Have you ever heard of that old Christian saying - “IN ESSENTIALS UNITY, IN NON-ESSENTIALS LIBERTY, IN ALL THINGS CHARITY?”

Are you interested in building unity and momentum for Gov. Palin with those who would vote for her? IMHO, it doesn’t help to blast her supporters for not being ‘pure’ enough for you.

“I like her but posts are a dime a dozen.”

Do you think Jim DeMint needs to grow in any way? I do. Do you think Sarah Palin needs to grow in any way? I do. Do you think this country can be salvage by one person? I don’t. This country needs to be salvaged by millions of average people, who care about their families and kids, and by tens of thousands of servant leaders, who will serve this country for a while and then go back from where they came (sounds a bit like our military heroes as well, doesn’t it?)

If Gov. Palin or Jim DeMint are elected POTUS, it’s just a part of this picture, an important part, but just a part. We all do well to remember that.
