TSA full-body scanners at airports supported by majority of Americans, half against pat-downs: poll

Americans aren't crazy about the new airport pat-downs. But according to a new poll, nearly half still back them, with even more supporting full body scanning.

Forty-eight percent of Americans said the pat-downs are justified, while 50% said they are against the new measures, a new Washington Post/ABC News poll revealed.

Meanwhile, the majority – 64% – said they supported the use of full-body scanners while 32% said they were against it.

The 385 full-body scanners being used at 68 airports across the country have sparked an outcry from flyers, who argue they're virtual strip searches because they produce invasive, intimate images of passengers.

Meanwhile, the majority – 64% – said they supported the use of full-body scanners while 32% said they were against it.

When this was stated on FNC, it was said differently....meaning, 64% said they preferred the body scanners over the full groping.

Not that they supported the scanners.

I wonder which it really is?

Did we have to PAY the “victims” at Abu Garib? If so I’m waiting for a lawsuit of epic proportions against the TSA to get the ball rolling.

“Scan rate: Less than 7 seconds per view
Display: 19 inch high-resolution color monitor
Emission Per Scan: Less than 10 microRem”

Sure - that’s from the manufacturer. Has this been verfied in ‘real world’ tests at the airport? I just notice that these rays which supposedly bounce right off the skin are showing shadows of bones in the images shown on Drudge and elsewhere...meaning they are penetrating deeper than advertised.

The only valid responses are from those who have been subjected to the enhanced pat down.

Actually, the only valid response is NEITHER!

Remember that political correctness is nothing more than institutionalized, mandatory stupidity.

I believe it is probably more along the wording of FNC..."Given choice A or B, which would you choose?"

I would like to see a poll of people who have went through the process and then asked, "Given a choice of A) pat-down or scanner or B) metal detectors, a wand and bomb sniffing equipment, which would you choose?"

I would like to see the actual images that are created, not the g-rated versions everyone has seen. I imagine the poll would be different if people knew how explicit they (supposedly) are.

Agreed. Just wanted to put out what the manufacturer was providing. I'm sure we can trust Napolitano not to induce high levels of radiation into our bodies right? LOL!

I have to wonder whether the author of this article
(whose last name roughly translates to “martyr”)
was selected and pulled from line for a pat-down?

First of all — how many of those questioned actually fly and how many of them have flown since the new intrusive perv pictures and sexual assault by the government was put in place?

Second — how many of them believe the measures actully discover terrorists weapons and bomb and how many of those know the truth that they do NOT discover PETN, the explosive the Christmas bomber had stuffed in his underwear?

How many of them know that while they are molesting passengers in the name of “safely”, any cargo can contain PETN, the printers are just one example, the terrorists can put it into anything else too.

Regardless of any polls, these things are in violation

We need checkpoints on highways to check for potential car bombs. You never know if the Prius beside you could be driven by a terrorist.

For the children.

Yep, if air traffic should drop significantly, there would be significant changes for sure.

Unless the airlines take a hint from the banks and the auto manufacturers and start whining to the government "Subsidize us! We're too big to fail. Look at all the jobs that are threatened by a drop in air traffic!"

I wish someone would explain to me why an xray tech or dentist has to stand behind a lead wall? These machines have to be more powerful than a dentist’s xray.
