Since Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) is apparently going to explore the possibility of running for president in 2008, I thought I'd dig up some of his roll call votes. Like most Republicans, he's strong on tax cuts, but he's been part of the big government spending spree of the last 6 years. He also has a protectionist streak in him. Here are some of the more troubling votes:
NO on NAFTA
YES on No Child Left Behind
YES on Sarbanes-Oxley
YES on the 2003 Medicare Drug Benefit
NO on CAFTA
YES on 2005 Highway Bill
YES on the 527 bill (like most Republicans, he flip-flopped, having first voted NO on McCain-Feingold)
Hunter also went 0 for 19 on the Flake anti-pork amendments.
Despite being a member of the Republican Study Committee, Hunter frequently votes NO on their fiscally conservative annual budgets (2006, 2005, 2003...)
We gave him a 49% on the 2005 Club for Growth scorecard. That places him 187th within the House GOP conference, out of roughly 230 members.
National Taxpayers Union shows a more telling trend. He was strong in the early 1990s, getting "B's" and one "A", but as time went by, like most politicians, his score dropped. For the past few years, he's been getting "C's".
The Free-traders don’t like Hunter. What else is new? Glad to hear Savage, Ingraham, and some others finally catch on with the fraudulent “free trade” idea, that Hunter has been warning about since the early 1990s. Free trade is the biggest farce since global warming.
And sauce for all of the other candidates who these PDSers support as well......they can’t defend their own candidate so they have to attack her
Are there any votes mentioned here other than free trade votes? What's your take on them?
Free trade is the biggest farce since global warming.
But what about the millions of jobs created here in the US by NAFTA? Oh wait, nevermind.
Sting back, early and often.
ROFL
ROFLOL........... big thumbs-up
Sorry but I’m not calling a No vote on NAFTA and CAFTA a negative. Free Trade is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the American Public. A little protectionism is not a bad thing. We need to get back to it and rebuild our manufacturing base.
2006
Where’s Congressman Duncan Hunter’s FENCE ???
Wheres his NO votes on AMNESTY ???
Wheres his votes AGAINST stem cell research using the bodies of unborn babies ???
“Free trade” has screwed this country royally. It’s a one-way proposition. Former US businesses were allowed to relocate overseas with much cheaper labor costs and then bring their products into the US sans tariffs. If you’re a US business trying to export to other countries, you know that “free trade” is a myth. Our trade representatives should be shot. Other businesses that had to stay due to excessive import transportation costs got cheap illegal labor to satiate their greed. It’s a race to the bottom with respect to global wage rates. Very few workers in this country will be able to maintain their salaries with global wage parity brought about by so-called “free trade.”
No to NAFTA? Sounds good to me!
Given the results in the 2008 primaries, Club for Growth wasn’t the only ones opposing Hunter.

The song doesn't actually mean anything in this context, but it's a cool song.
I see that the lesson of 2008 for some is "make sure to burn down every house in the village but ours". Because it seemed like a good idea at the time, and who would have thought that the fire could spread.
The thing I LEARN from these posts is that in the 2008 election, we allowed people to post negative stories about everybody, even the strongest conservatives.
Actually free trade is the least bothersome of all the items on the list. You conveniently ignore all the massive spending bills your boy Hunter voted for.
You can run, but you can’t hide from your hypocrisy.
FTR, Duncan Hunter has a 92.27 ACU Rating with 28 years of service.
And if the US worker continues to vote people into office who create more and more regulations....more and more businesses are going to find it smart to move overseas - Especially manufacturing.
What about the big spending? Gonna defend that?
When it comes to trade, I fault the uncritical free traders at Club for Growth, and not Hunter.
