A dog that fought off a suicide bomber in Afghanistan, saving the lives of several US soldiers, was euthanized by mistake by animal shelter staff in Arizona. An investigation was underway Tuesday into why Target was put to sleep at the Pinal County Animal Care & Control center. An unnamed employee was placed on administrative leave for failing to follow procedures. The shepherd-mix dog was picked up last Friday after going missing from its owner Sgt. Terry Young's home in the San Tan Valley area, southeast of Phoenix. The dog, which was not microchipped or licensed with the county, was euthanized Monday.

Agree...something is not right on this story.

I was a puppy pusher early in my USAF career (81150a) an my dog had a tattoo in his ear that was his service number per se...

DOD is to best of my knowledge using chips these days. If this was really a bomb detection dog owned by the DOD why was it not secured by the handler be they a LEO a FLEA or DOD employee.

Lots missing in this tale...

When I cross trained over to EOD teams the K9 trained by military were not being sold to civilians or police.

Albeit ....my era in K9 was early 70’s things may have changed.

It sounded like you were ridiculing people.

I was.

I was ridiculing those who would inevitably show up here with the opinion that the loss of this dog is no big deal.

In spite of this, it's still good to get this. Collars containing tags can be lost.

True enough. Looks like he's wearing a collar in his pic.

Because you didn’t read it and just skimmed it!

It is as clear as day what he intended, there is no room for misunderstanding.

Add somebody to pet and play with him and we’re both on the same page.

It sounded “that way” to the rest of us. I had no problem understanding that remark, and found nothing to be so upset about. When a bunch of people are telling you that you misunderstood, it’s possible that you did, right?

The pup was a local stray that the guys took in.

It saved them, and this is how it gets repaid.

Damn all bureaucrats.

freekitty:

You made a mistake. An apology was in order. That's been clearly pointed out by several FReepers. You've used every artifice to spin your POV. All you needed to do is say "sorry". FAILED. You're an idiot.

Oh. Sorry, POV is acronynm for "point of view".

Your "replies": freekitty

Sometimes its too late to apologize, in this case you still could do the right thing. ;-)

Very sad. If you ever get a chance to see the documentary “War Dogs of the Pacific” on history channel, it’s a great documentary about the dogs who served in WWII. These dogs are faithful to the end.

There is nothing to apologize for. I see it one way and he sees it another. I can’t read his mind.

Agree....yet wondering how it went from DOD bomb dog to “stray” status.....unheard of in my arena.

He’s chasing the ball in heaven as much as he wants now.

Stay safe ...

Read the post again. Making a joke like he did is not appropriate.

Sheesh! I'd suggest that you read the post again. Try reading it more slowly this time. Notice the words and try to comprehend the meaning. He was talking about others who would invariably come onto a thread like this and say "It's just a dog", not making that statement himself.

It’s no use, she’s either totally clueless or just too stubborn to admit she jumped to the wrong conclusion. You just can’t help some people.

If anyone owes anyone an apology; it is you. Your remarks are way over the line and offensive.

I guess offending and ridiculing people is the way to go; huh?
