For Obama, it's back to a new reality By: Carol E. Lee November 14, 2010 04:10 PM EST
The trip began with policy successes and a glowing reception, welcome respite for a president fresh off of a stinging political defeat. But the terrain got thornier as Barack Obama made his way across Asia.
Dancing with schoolchildren in Mumbai and reconnecting with a piece of his childhood in Jakarta gave way to a setback on a free trade deal in Seoul and tense confrontations from his counterparts aboutAmerican leadership on the global economy. By the time he headed to his last stop a gathering of world leaders in Japan Obama was on the defensive and frustrated with how he was being portrayed.
What about the compliments? the president told reporters when asked what criticisms he heard during his conversations with other heads of state.
Unfortunately for Obama, it doesnt get easier from here. The worst of his nine days in Asia is better than the new reality in Washington he faces when he returns home Sunday afternoon.
He has to figure out what to do about tax cut issues the Democratic-controlled Congress punted before the midterm elections, and how to find agreement in a divided Congress on how to fund the government through next September. He meets Thursday for the first time with newly-emboldened Republican congressional leaders, whom hell host for dinner at the White House.

LBJ
Thanks, it was aweful searching his photos. Icky!
During the past couple last weeks of the election, I commented to my husband, he’s so fragile, it looks like he is physically going to break. Remember his non crowds at his events, while conservatives were drawing 1000’s. He can’t handle the job. Wait until the msm starts asking him tough questions. He demands adoration, and that part is over. These next two years will be interesting.
lol!
I remember when it was ‘awful’, ‘taboo’, to dye your hair. Today, it’s no big deal.
I’ll bet your hair is really thick too.
LBJ ran for re-election in 1964 and won.
the bastards are setting us up for Hillary
It is.
I have to fight like heck for that “senior discount” LOL.
Thanks about my page, I’m glad you took a minute to look at it. I really appreciate your gratitude and your support. It was really icky looking it up.
One day, just one full day, I would like to see his media whores talk to him with the disdain and utter contempt that they speak to and about Sarah Palin. This worthless mama’s boy would totally lose it. Man-up, you big sissy.
That was actually, “election.” He declined to run for re-election in 68.
I knew it! All you non-grey hair old codgers have a head of hair we’d ‘dye’ for. We hate all of you :) ! My middle daughter, who you saw on my page has extremely thick hair.
I got carded for liquor the other day, they card everyone who appears under 40. I’m 52. The check out gal made my day! I told her so. Don’t complain about appearing not to be a senior. Wear it as a badge of honor! Think of it as reverse carding.
Remember when they thought you weren’t old enough to buy liquor, now, they think you’re not old enough for a senior discount. Then you were offended, today, rejoice!
Change “iconic” to “ironic” and this statement makes more sense.
God bless you, your daughter, and your daughter’s husband.
Please convey this to her for me:
I stood in the breach, ready.
The fires around me a forge.
My friends the quenching water,
That strengthens my steel.
I hold my head high, weeping.
Tears of grief and of joy.
Lost, save for my families,
My relatives, and my fellow soldiers, the same.
The flag is my symbol and my shield.
My uniform a symbol of my servitude,
And a symbol of my exceptionalism,
My love of God, and of Country, and of my fellow soldier.
Happy Veteran’s Day.
(One vet to another, a few days late, with heartfelt thanks)
I read that 3 times. Thanks for sharing it.
I talk to my daughter daily, but, I could hardly wait to say ‘Happy Veterans Day’ to her on Thursday morning. I knew I’d call her. It was on my mind all week, but, I restrained myself. I called her first thing Thursday morning, and was so excited to talk to her. I could hardly wait to thank her. She was so appreciative, the typical, aw shucks response.
For what it’s worth, I usually don’t write free verse.
But I believe in this country. I believe in those who sacrifice to keep it safe.
I hope she likes it.
You did good. Thanks, it touched me. Keep sending your message.
