Toomey hopes for 10 p.m. victory speech

Democrats in Pennsylvania have spent all day hyping reports of higher-than-expected turnout in Philadelphia and other blue strongholds.

But less than an hour before polls close, we're getting other estimates, and they paint to a more difficult path for Democratic Rep. Joe Sestak in his Senate race against Republican Pat Toomey.

The poll-watching group Committee of Seventy says only a couple wards in Philly have so far reported turnout exceeding 30 percent — a far cry from predictions by city Democratic Party boss Bob Brady that turnout would surpass the 2006 election.

I’ve always heard that in PA the democrats know that they have to win Philly by 300,000 votes. If they dont they know they’re in trouble. I’d love to see Toomey and Kasich win.

This is like 1998 in the senate. Reid will still be senate majority leader. No way to stop a SC appointment.

Unfortunately, on the national stage, PA is becoming more and more reliably Democrat. I’m already calling PA for Obama in 2012. I have no idea what’s up with PA people...you talk to them and they clearly fit the more conservative, Republican profile but they vote Dem Dem Dem.

laura ingram just said much the same on fox

Heard same. She seems to think some ad on shipping jobs to China did Toomey in. Although Santorum said earlier w greta that he thinks Toomey pull it out.

Crossing fingers.

The weird thing is the Republicans are doing well in the House races. Fitzpatrick (R) looks like he will beat Murphy (D)...and that’s in North East Philadelphia itself. Weird.

Looks like Toomey may pull through after all. Sestak’s lead has all but evaporated.

I’ll tell you the problem in this screwed up commonwealth.......the unions spent MILLIONS of dollars running ads portraying Toomey as something he wasn’t and Toomey never answered them. He should have run an ad with Sestek and Obama, arm in arm, with Obama calling Americans the enemy. But, he didn’t. Every time I heard Toomey give an interview, he was talking about being nice.

He may end up ahead tonight, but he needs a solid recount buffer or Sleestak will tie it up in the courts for months like Franken, and ultimately prevail.

Toomey is pulling ahead and analysts say the trend is with him and he will win. Very good news as I thought this was a lost race an hour ago!
