Notable GOP gains, but no '94 rerun (NC Outlook)
Raleigh News & Obstructor ^ | November 2, 2010 | ROB CHRISTENSEN - Staff Writer

North Carolina Republicans appear poised for a sweeping victory in today's midterm elections, but Democrats believe their turnout effort may help them forestall a historic landslide.

Aided by a strong mood of voter discontent about the economy and anger with Washington, Republicans are on the march everywhere.

In an anti-Washington year, Republican Sen. Richard Burr, who is being challenged by Democrat Elaine Marshall, is one incumbent who has avoided much of the anger that has arisen in other states. But Democratic congressmen face their fiercest challenges in years from GOP challengers. And Republicans - both sides agree - are within spitting distance of control of the state legislature for the first time since 1898.

He’s right about 94 - it may be worse for the Dims.

“In an anti-Washington year, Republican Sen. Richard Burr, who is being challenged by Democrat Elaine Marshall, is one incumbent who has avoided much of the anger that has arisen in other states.”

....of course Richard Burr is not a focus of anger....he votes CONSERVATIVE....this article is such a typical slant from a McClatchey newspaper...with them it’s all about ‘anger’...no mention that the ‘anger’ is because of the Lib/Socialist agenda the Obama led Dems have foisted upon us.

... but Democrats believe their turnout fraud effort may help them forestall a historic landslide.

They can't win a fair election, the creeps. Down with Perdue!

The N&O has to be one of the worst newspapers ever. I wouldn’t even paper a pet cage or train a dog with it.

The Democrats in NC are worried about a GOP takeover of the statehouse and congressional delegation.

Democrat turnout effort, properly translated, means voter fraud.

“The N&O has to be one of the worst newspapers ever.”

....all the McClatchey group papers are like that...one of them The Miami Herald, actually asked readers for donations to keep them afloat...can you imagine that in a capitalist economy?...a business asking customers for alms?

....the one spot of good news: McClatchey is hemorraging money...not much longer and they will be humbled by market forces.

The N & O is a huge fan of liberalism. They support only Dem candidates. Their headlines always put Republicans in a negative light. Someone could do a very interesting study on the descriptive wording and headlines that the paper uses daily to sway people’s opinion of Republicans. It’s really quite astounding. Most people I know use the N & O’s endorsements as a voters guide on whom not to vote for!

My local paper has an article with pretty much the same theme:

Marshall rallies Democratic volunteers

They're trying to help the rats GOTV efforts.

Here in North Carolina, the most important (and the most under-reported) races are those for State Senate and State House. If the GOP is able to capture both (a tough uphill slog given that the districts are gerrymandered in the Dems' favor), we control redistricting for the State Senate, State House, and Congress, because unlike in most states, our Governor (feckless fraudulent fraulein Bev Perdue) does not have a veto in redistricting matters.

If the Republicans get control of both Chambers of the General Assembly, they can lock in GOP control for a decade (absent a cataclysmic national Dem wave during that time), and they can switch the Congressional gerrymandering sharply to the GOP's favor. Our Congressional delegation is currently 8D/5R. Republicans could pick up anywhere from 0 to 4 seats tonight. But if they take the NC Senate and House, we could flip the delegation to 8R/5D easily -- and maybe 9R/4D, after the 2012 elections.

It is unfortunate that the NC State Senate and House races have been flying beneath the radar. They are of critical importance.

I must share:

I work with a newly naturalized citizen from Bosnia. This is his first election. I gladdened to see how much he looks forward to casting his first vote as an American. It has helped ME to go through with him all the steps needed to cast a VOTE.
I am inspired by his faith in the process and his eagerness to take his wife with him to the poll.

[I have also tried to not push the proper party too much tho he knows how I certainly feel: “Those people with “D” after their names? Those people are Demented...we don’t vote for them...” but he does know to pull the lever for Burr...hey his call not mine.]

Anyway...its what being a citizen is all about. Its refreshing to watch someone take their place as an American for the first time.
