Go ahead, say it. It's no longer mere fantasy or sheer folly to do so. A rare mix of veteran rejects and budding stars completed an unlikely ascent to the Major League summit Monday night, allowing all to repeat a five-word phrase never before heard:
World Series champion San Francisco Giants. The Giants made franchise history with a 3-1 triumph over the Rangers in Game 5 of the World Series, ignoring their underdog status to capture the 106th Fall Classic, four games to one.
An unlikely hero combined with a likely one to elevate San Francisco to new heights.

Great pitching still beats great hitting.
All is well with the universe.
Larry Herndon, Terry Whitfield, Randy Mofitt, Dan Gladden, The “Count”, Mike Ivie, Darryl Evans, Jack Clark, Will Clark.
I don't care for Timmy's hairstyle, or his use of language, or the pot bust last year. Yet, he is a tremendous pitcher who is a fierce competitor. He worked very hard and utilized all his God-given talent to get to where he is: at the pinnacle of the baseball world.
Will Clark was one of ours, too.
We were walking into the game Saturday in Arlington, and someone commented to some of the people walking in wearing a black, orange, and cream-colored T-shirt. "Those colors look so gay. Oh wait you're from San Francisco, never mind."
Lincecum is a POS and no conservative should defend the creep.
Bitter much?
It was great that two teams that normally don't get to the World Series got there, with plenty of heart and talent. For the Rangers, what an accomplishment, to get to the World Series--Alas, this was not their year, but they made it to the big time and know they can do it again.
As for the Giants--who would have thunk it at the beginning of the season, where for years they were ranked to come in last or next to last in their division. It would have been nice to put a little money on them at the beginning of the season, eh? Good Going.
It ain't about California versus Texas, Liberal vs Conservative, San Francisco vs Houston, gay, homo, commie whatever....its just baseball--a favorite pastime to while away the time. Of course in the end it doesn;t amount to a hill of beans--but for just a moment, October unites a nation as we listen via radio or watch on television, the boys of October, playing a game where there has to be a winner and a loser. Tomorrow we get on with our lives
For us Sf Giants Fans, its been a long time coming and we are a bit happy. Ther are new names that will be etched into the hall of records. The win won't pay the mortgage or put gas in our car--but for a moment we can forget our troubles.
FOr the Texas Rangers fans, you get to say "Next Year" with the realization that you can go all the way to the big time--and maybe next year you will win it. Congrats for getting this far and Congrats for beating out the Yankees..
No. Just not ecstatic about rooting for faggy looking guys. Your self esteem depend upon identifying with ballplayers much? Let me guess, 14 years old.
Congrats San Francisco fans.
Baseball has been my favorite sport since I was able to pick up a ball and toss it against a wall to practice.
That was last year and I’m 59. Oh, okay..., I was about five.
We used to listen to the Saint Louis Cardinals on the radio back in the Boyer, Flood, Musial, McCarver, Harry Carry Tim Buck days.
I’ll never forget those nights with my grandpa out on the farm a mile from our nearest neighbors.
Seems all so mystical now...
And now personal attacks?
Sounds like you’re projecting with the “14 year old” comment.
Lincecum is a success from years of hard work, which are conservative values, and he is straight.
So what if he smokes a little dank now and then?
Real conservatives don’t tell others how to live their lives.
Leave that to the left...
Did you lose a bunch of money on the Rangers?
Realistically if the Rangers want to even win their division next year (The Angels will be back!) they are going to have to make some moves:
1. Guerrero is done, get rid of him.
2. Sign Cliff.
3. Work with Feliz to develop a second pitch to go along with his fastball.
4. See what trade value Michael Young still has and deal him.
5. Bring another bat, especially with Josh’s tendency to get hurt.
6. Find another catcher (Bengie enjoy your WS Ring, now get out of here, you slowpoke)
We got water and bridges too!!!
Since I hate Mark Cuban, and hockey bores me, I'm done with sports until the Cowboys suck next season.
My post above is the San Francisco Vote recently from the State website
you got that right!! Wash seemed to make several wrong moves with pitching this WS like in game 2 bottom of 8th sgould have brought in feliz.. why do you leave Holland in to throw 13 BALLS???
what a wonderful classy post!! I was at the game tonight and don’t know if it came across on TV... but MANY rangers fans stayed at least an hour and clapped for and congratulated the Giants and thier fans...
Congratulations.
I am from Pittsburgh. I remember when the Pirates last won the Series, in 1979. May it happen again in my lifetime. (highly unlikely)
Hate the politics around here, but love the Giants!!!!
