ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct 31 (Reuters) - The San Francisco Giants beat the Texas Rangers 4-0 on Sunday to move within one victory of their first World Series title in 56 years.
A superb performance by 21-year-old rookie left-hander Madison Bumgarner helped San Francisco claim a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Fall Classic.
Home runs by Aubrey Huff and Buster Posey provided the firepower for the Giants, now one win away from clinching their first Major League Baseball championship since 1954 when they played in New York.
Game Five of the Series will be played on Monday, with San Francisco sending Tim Lincecum to the mound against Cliff Lee of Texas in a rematch of Game One, which the Giants won 11-7.
This has nothing to do with politics, or Nancy Pelosi, or SF as a cesspool of depravity--its just baseball folks and it is good to finally see my long time team up three to one in the World Series.
Remember, both these teams had to play their hearts out to get where they are today. Only one team can win and so far, the Giants have had some fantastic pitching and fielding. Heck the Rangers couldn't even get past third base tonight. The Kid, only 21 years old, throwing the ball like that for eight innings. Impressive indeed.
third=Second base
I doubt we’ll see Jerry wise up at all. if the years between Jimmy Johnson and Parcells didn’t wake him up, I can’t imagine this will. Until Jones is ages enough to physically step back, he’s going to stay too involved.
Cody Ross.
I apologize to the Giants fans for calling their boys bums in my post above.
They are gamers.
Huff is the only bum as he was worthless as a Tiger last year and a key letdown in Detroit not making the 09 post season.
You know what I would love to see, the next Cowboys home game, the fans stage a mass walkout in the second quarter. That would send a message to Jerry.
You said it. I'm always happy when the Bronx Bombers bite the big one.
Good point about Huff with the Tigers.
I guess now my allegiance is between whoever plays better, the Tigers or the Rangers. I probably still have to have my first allegiance to the club of my youth, in the Tigers. But it’s been fun being here during the Rangers’ run.
I was disappointed a few years ago, when the Tigers, like the Rangers, beat the Yankees, only to lose in the WS to the Cards. Of course it’s a lot different when you are the only person around your neighborhood who cares about the WS, as it was that year, and this year, when everybody here is into it.
Props to Bumgarner. He reminds me of a sprinkler head when he throws, but man could he bring it.
It aint over till the fat lady sings.
But since she will be in SF she will most likely light up a doob instead.
Hope the Giants win it in Texas tomorrow - SF hooligans don’t deserve a home win.
Brother tell me about it!
My earliest baseball memory is a soft liner off the bat of Willie McCovey with two runners in scoring position in 1962. Just like that the series was over and the Yankees had won.
Then there was 1989. The earth moved and the A's swept.
2002, it just felt like it wasn't going to happen after they went to Anaheim. I still remember those lousy plastic noise makers, American vuvuzelas.
It's 3-1. We have to win one. They have to win 3. Just one more. I don't care where it happens, I don't care who the hero is, as long as it happens.
*You know what I would love to see, the next Cowboys home game, the fans stage a mass walkout in the second quarter. That would send a message to Jerry.*
Yeah, that would send a real message all right—”Hey Jerry, we gave you all of our money and now we’re leaving...this will allow you to send all the concessionaires home early without pay—neener neener!”
Sorry to see another loss here for the Texans. Looks like they have a very slim chance of pulling this out. The Giants do look awfully good - have to give them credit.
I hate Pelosi too but don’t take it out on the poor Giants or their fans... Most of us do not live in the city (In fact I live in Texas now) and I don’t think the people voting for her are baseball fans. I’m 52 years old and I’m still waiting to see my beloved Giants win their first series in my lifetime. Also this team is not a bunch of bums... they are a bunch of team players... They belong here, they beat Philly and they are beating the Rangers because they are earning it. What could be more American than earning what you get?
I wish my Granddad, a loyal Giants fan from the time they came to SF in 1958, were alive to see this. Take `em down, Giants!!!!
The fact the Rangers need 3 and two of those are vs Cain and Lincecum.... Lookin` pretty good now!!! Go G-Men!
I still remember the heartbreak of watching Willie Mays take on Sandy Koufax. That curve ball had his number. Despite those many disappointments, I loved that "Say hey kid." He was the complete player, what baseball was all about, and all heart, every game. All those years finishing in second place, to LA, to St. Louis... it didn't matter; it was always second. Winning it all would be good.
I wonder if anyone knows this?
Funny how opposing teams bats went to sleep this year whenever they faced Giant pitching....
