Television comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert drew tens of thousands of people to the National Mall on Saturday, promising to skewer partisan politics three days before contentious U.S. elections.
The Comedy Central hosts' "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" started off as part slapstick comedy show and part outdoor festival concert.
Stewart opened the festivities by declaring that "10 million" people showed up, representing all ethnic groups in America.
"It is a perfect demographic sampling of the American people," said Stewart, who hosted U.S. President Barack Obama on his show on Wednesday.
"As you know, if you have too many white people at your rally, then your cause is racist, but if you have too many people of color at your rally, then you must be asking for something: special rights -- like eating in restaurants or piggy back rides -- something that we as a society are not ready to give," he added.
The rally, widely viewed as a response to "August's "Restoring Honor" rally organized by conservative talk show host Glenn Beck, blurred the lines between satire and political activism.

Half? It’s MAYBE 10% - it’s not even in the same location!
Today’s photo shows a modest gathering EAST of the Washington Monument, facing east toward the west Capitol steps. This mall is far more narrow, the rows of trees are much closer to each other, and there is barely any room on the outside of the tree rows! (Example: The Smithsonian buildings virtually touch the tree tops on the right side of today’s photo.
The Restoring Honor Rally was held facing west toward the front of the Lincoln Memorial; a vastly larger, more expansive area, with space for hundreds of thousands on the large grass areas outside the tree lines. AND, that entire space was jammed all the way westward along the entire reflecting pool, around the basin of the World War II Memorial, all the way to the Washington Monument.
Comparing these photos is like comparing luscious apples to a bunch of sour grapes!
It wasn’t held in a “downtown” area. See above post explaining the dramatically different locations of the two rallies.
Thousands of what?? Mosquitos??? Roaches??? Rats???
Hehe. Just ignore the whole thing.
Beautiful job! My post above described what your scale map demonstrates wonderfully!!
Thanks!
Thank you...
I’ll run it through Photshop and see what I come up with.
The organizers had to ensure a decent crowd by inviting two nationally known music acts. It is really a rock concert with two ass-clowns as M.C.s.
What will photoshop tell you?

What I saw of it sure doesn’t have me worried. It looks like the crowd AND those on stage didn’t really have a point. It would have been funnier if he just called it Generic Rally. Then all the fluff he said would have made sense, and the satirical point would have been made.
Instead it was just a comedian trying to make himself a power broker.
I wonder if the DUmmies think this will save them Tuesday, or do they know it was lame, and will be forgotten in week. (Well, the media will always include it when they’re forced to talk about Beck’s rally.)
“Gotta say, that was a pretty large gathering.”
‘Bout 15,000 were bussed in for free by Ariana Huffington. Ulitmate astroturf. Where’s Nanzi PelosLIE when we need her? hahaha...
Crowd looks to be about 75K to 100K?? In any case way less than Beck, 9/12/2010, and WAY less than 9/12/2009. Whassup Jonny boy? I thought you were the coolest guy in the whole wide world...BWAAAAHAHAHA...
I quit watching those commie losers at C-span in 1992.

“I like how C-SPANs Independent callers are ultraliberals”
What a waste of time to listen to them drone on, hey?
“It was an immense turnout.”
What do you consider immense? This is small compared to Beck’s and 9/12/2009, Promise Keepers and a number of other rallies I’ve seen.
