French riots: paramilitary may be deployed

Hortefeux warned rioters that "the right to protest is not the right to break things, the right to set things on fire, the right to assault, the right to pillage."

"We will use all means necessary to get these delinquents." That includes the GIGN paramilitary police, he said.

Over the past week, 1,423 people have been detained for protest-related violence, he said, more than a third of them Tuesday. Of those, 123 are facing legal action. He said he ordered police to look at video surveillance to find more perpetrators, suggesting more arrests could be ahead.

He said 62 police officers have been injured in the violence over the past week.

In Nanterre on Wednesday morning, about 100 students blocked the school entrance and part of highway in front of the school, while a "tranquility team" of about 30 adults in special red jackets sought to keep things calm.

Then about 100 other youths arrived and started darting through the town streets, smashing store windows and throwing stones. Some store owners lowered metal blinds to avoid looting. Nine police vans were parked in the surrounding area.

Is retirement for government employees also considered welfare?

The French Government runs the entire Pension system, so the answer to your question is 'yes'.

When you take into consideration the compensation they are given for the actual WORK they do for the country, then yes, I would say it does amount to welfare in most cases...

Just like here, a “riot” is playtime for teenagers and young people. They get a chance to get all the mischief out.

This is not just a bunch of kids causing trouble. The trouble is too widespread. Are they at meltdown stage? No yet.

The US has two choices to avoid economic collapse:
1. Raise taxes to at least 50% of all individual income which will result in a revolution. 2. Reduce all Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid benefits and public employee pensions by a minimum of 25% which will result in riots in the streets worse than any we see in Europe today.

The sad fact is that neither of these actions nor a combination of the two will actually take place.

We are faced with either a mind blowing inflation or total or partial repudiation of both state and national debts which would not be legal but will happen, in any event. We can only hope that after government takes this drastic action it will return to a real asset based currency and bar further artificial creation of money via a Federal Bank.

Wrong....

The only choice is to eliminate *millions* of government bureaucrat employee positions which will reduce the size of government dramatically.

In addition, those government employees left working will have their wages reduced to at or near minimum wage for the privilege of serving the people. No more government life long bureaucrat careers. Serve 3 years, then out.

Furthermore, the millions government employees, who are currently retired, will have their lottery style government pensions dramatically reduced, in many cases up to 50 percent reductions across the board.

I fail to understand the point of the French strikes.

Over here in Sweden, we are critical of our government too, but we don’t view ridiculous strikes as a solution to anything.

What do unions and their manifestations actually accomplish?

In what way have unions contributed to my life?

Every mmajor city used to have a CRS detachment stationed there, don’t know if this is still true.

Remember spring 1968 and the Paris riots ? CRS fixed that rather quickly once they were turned loose.
