Seeking to fire up the Democratic base and the young voters who helped put him into office in 2008, President Barack Obama urged an overflow crowd on the Ohio State University Oval last night to reject a Republican agenda "that nearly destroyed the economy."
"We need you fired up because in a little more than two weeks, you can set the direction of this state and the direction of this country for not just the next two years, but the next five years, the next 10 years, the next 20 years," Obama said to the crowd, which university police estimated at 35,000.
It's believed to be the largest Obama rally since his his inauguration.
"This is the same theory they have been peddling for years," Obama said of GOP policies on regulation, taxes, trade and other issues that he blamed for causing the recession.
"And Ohio, it is up to you to tell them we do not want what they are selling. We've been there before, and we are not going back."
Larissa Gerber and Johanna Moeckel, both 22-year-old OSU seniors who attended the rally, said they voted for Obama in 2008. They both think Obama has done a good job in office so far and "definitely" plan to vote this year.
But Ben Boeke, 30, a Grove City engineer who attended the rally with his wife and 3-year-old son, said he is leaning toward supporting Kasich in the governor's race because "nothing's really changed the last four years with Strickland."
The president also held a small fundraiser in Columbus before the OSU rally for the Democratic National Committee that was expected to raise $250,000.

Couldn’t help but notice ...
“the crowd, which university police estimated at 35,000. It’s believed to be the largest Obama rally since his inauguration.”
“estimated” and “believed” ROFL. Reads a lot like Hope and Change.
If the estimator was an Obama voter, then the crowd was ACTUALLY half that.
No wonder they lost the football game.
"Barack, you think these cheering suckers will vote Democrat, again, after all your screwups."
" My screwups? You the one who went globe-trotting to Spain. That dumba** trip killed my agenda."
35,000 people who haven’t yet tried to find a job. Good luck with that.
Close, 105k... but I see your point.
And so, Obama continues his Diz Kids Reichstag Rallies in college towns across America. Among the many things the lamestram media is failing to notice (in addition to how small the crowds are compared to the available sitting) is that the carefully orchestrated Reichstag Rallies are more for the fading charlatan than for his candidates or party.
SOBama desperately needs adoration. Without it, he sinks back into the blue funk of knowing that he is nothing more than a “mongrel” (his word, not mine) with nothing more to offer than narcissism and platitudes.
As to the Diz Kids who turn out to watch the production, I have to think that a lot of them turn out for the very reason my pro-Vietnam War fraternity brothers used to hop in the car and drive down to the anti-Vietnam War rallies on the mall: “Come on,” they would tell me gleefully, “there’s going to be lots of good [word we cannot use on FR) there.”
You took the words right out of my mouth!
Yuk. No, thanks...
Her sweater is way too small and her pants are too big (thank goodness we were not subjected to tight pants on her ever growing backside). And it looks as if he got his wedding ring "repaired".
“Attracts” or buses in?
FWIW, it seems the band/artist “Legend” performed prior to Obama’s entry. Imagine that, kids went to a free concert for a popular singer.
Oh ... a singer who’s had videos produced by Spike Lee.
