Seeking to fire up the Democratic base and the young voters who helped put him into office in 2008, President Barack Obama urged an overflow crowd on the Ohio State University Oval last night to reject a Republican agenda "that nearly destroyed the economy."
"We need you fired up because in a little more than two weeks, you can set the direction of this state and the direction of this country for not just the next two years, but the next five years, the next 10 years, the next 20 years," Obama said to the crowd, which university police estimated at 35,000.
It's believed to be the largest Obama rally since his his inauguration.
"This is the same theory they have been peddling for years," Obama said of GOP policies on regulation, taxes, trade and other issues that he blamed for causing the recession.
"And Ohio, it is up to you to tell them we do not want what they are selling. We've been there before, and we are not going back."
Larissa Gerber and Johanna Moeckel, both 22-year-old OSU seniors who attended the rally, said they voted for Obama in 2008. They both think Obama has done a good job in office so far and "definitely" plan to vote this year.
But Ben Boeke, 30, a Grove City engineer who attended the rally with his wife and 3-year-old son, said he is leaning toward supporting Kasich in the governor's race because "nothing's really changed the last four years with Strickland."
The president also held a small fundraiser in Columbus before the OSU rally for the Democratic National Committee that was expected to raise $250,000.

They needed something to cheer about after Saturday’s football game with Wisconsin.
Ohil State rally
Mr. Skittles, Ohio is lost. Best Regards.
Ohil must be one of those 7 extra states.
Meanwhile, an OSU home game draws over 150,000...
Keep smiling loser, your day of reckoning is coming.
Ohio State rally...
He’s right about the Republicans getting the wrecking ball rolling.
The spinelessness when Andrew Cuomo first introduced the idea of allowing unqualified people to obtain home mortgages.
The “compassionate” spending.
The utter spinelessness in standing up to the DemonRATs Dodd and Fwank as they insisted there was no need to audit Freddy and Fanny.
But 0bama forgot to mention that the DemonRATs want another chance to finish the job of wrecking the economy.
Is this the Lords way of sending a prediction of what is coming on November 2, 2010.
Every where the one goes, destruction follows.
Strickland is going the same way that the buckeyes went this past weekend.
Did anyone notice that Zero is campaigning in BLUE states?
They have to campaign in Blue States to try and keep their majority?
They must be in DEEP DO-DO................
“Keep smiling loser, your day of reckoning is coming.”
OTAY SPANKY :>)
“Did anyone notice that Zero is campaigning in BLUE states”?
...oh yeah! Delaware, California, Ohio! This spells BIG trouble for the kenyan usurper.
Ohil State lost a football game to Wisc last week end.
I believe it borders the lakes of Hope and Change just off the left coast........
At this point his image is so bad that he’s having to do rallys in blue CITIES in soon to be former blue States. I’m not sure he gets 5000 to show up anywhere outside of a large school campuses at this point.
Sunday night. College town. Nothin’ to do. Hey, lets go to the Bama rally. I’ll make a beer run first!
Ah, yes, the college students.
During the 2008 elections in a nearby college town, some students were voting by absentee ballot in their hometowns, and voting again in the college town.
Must be nice to have all your expenses paid for and get the extra advantage of casting (at least) two votes for every election to guarantee your free ride.
Just don’t complain when you graduate and there’s no job for you.
and Wisconsin.................
No....we need YOU just plain fired, Bammy
