Trapped Chilean Miners Rescue Beginning. Live Coverage
(Excerpt) Read more at guardian.co.uk ...
Just a somewhat cynical comment about the world in general, not Chile specifically.
I really dont know much about the political scene in Chili but I am very impressed with the president’s personal involvement there with the people at the site. He and his wife are a handsome couple, full of smiles & very appealing (to me)
I think you've got that just right. US helped a lot, but hey, when we had a Gulf oil spill, our administration delayed the fix and hindered cleanup by excluding foreign help. Chile's government sought the best available assistance for the problem, achieved a great resolution, and deserves all the accolades for this one.
Obummer and his minions need to watch and learn...
“But is anyone else outraged with the medical people who are all wringing their hands about panic attacks and freaking out and on and on like these MEN arent miners who are used to small places and risk.”
I am becoming ill just listening to the doctors. The doc on Fox keeps insisting there is methane in that mine, and then there is the report of the guys wanting cigarettes and do get them to smoke.
Trust me folks. If there is imminent danger of methane in that mine, no even the hardest of hardcore smokers would want to light a cigarette.
Just for your info, Chile’s rate of violent crime is 3.4x lower than in the US. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur-crime-murders
Good morning all - I fell asleep around rescue #6 :)
I read that Bolivia and Chile have always had very tense relations but that this effort (since one of the guys is Bolivian) has helped heal alot of that tension between the countries. And the Bolivian president arrives with President Pinera
BUMP
Anyone know who the dark “Indio” standing with Pres. Pinear is? Looks Bolivian almost like Morlas only slimmer.
TEN! TEN Chilean miners! Ah ah ah ah ah...
Ya gotta wonder what these folks are like at home. "Well yeah, darlin', I know you got a ninety-eight on the mid-term, but what if you get a fifty on the final?"
I think Chili is supposed to be a republic, but have had socialist leaders on and off. Maybe they just call their democrats socialists, like we should be doing.
Here’s some info I grabbed from Wikipedia - Pinera is “center-right”, and considers himself a Christian humanist (definition - the belief that human freedom and individualism are intrinsic (natural) parts of, or are at least compatible with, Christian doctrine and practice.) He is the first right-wing president in 52 years.
He is also one of the richest men in Chile, and has a business and economics background.
I read somewhere last night (don’t have the source) Chile has the strongest free market/economy in South America.
OK, it is Morlas. I’m actually happy to see him here. He does looks very out of place compared with Pres. Pinera and not at all sure what is happening.
But isn't that always the case ~ unless you really, really, really have a lot of money
I liked her on Fox, before she got the lobotomy at CNN.
Her bud just laid down the gloom and doom, worrying that the rescued miners would face economic hardship because the mine was going to be shut down.
I have an idea: maybe they can all become CNN anchors -- ratings couldn't get any worse.
