It would be no contest, IMO. These families would feel completely deserted by the gov’t.

The first four miners have boarded the helicopter which will fly them to hospital in Copiapó, where they will undergo a battery of tests.

Probably pretty quickly -- it's nearly 6 AM there, and, as you say, early spring. Should be seeing some daylight within a half hour or so.
Seems alot faster going down now that they send it empty!
It would be way too slowly if I were down there... It's good to see that wheel turning, though.
It looks like the psychological prep for this has been great. CNN/MSNBC are downplaying the attitude of the rescuees, even saying they've been instructed on how to act when they get up, but I'm amazed that they're so composed and cool.
Tough dudes in tough times -- they and their country deserve the mutual love and respect they're showing. The overall rescue effort, including the physical and mental care throughout, will be studied for a long time.
Well almost as soon as they come out, they get turned over to the doctors.
Won’t surprise me at all if we end up with a few punched-out doctors!

I get queasy and sick just looking at pictures. I don’t think I could do it. They would have to sedate me to keep me from hurting myself and everyone’s chance of rescue.
He's looking good, too, for all the pessimistic comments before about his health.

Didn’t the team leader/mine foreman down there report that he thought all the guys (pretty much) were in excellent shape?
Most were eating light, daily exercising, one was jogging like a mile a day, not much smoking/drinking

I know if it was me down there, I’d send up a message.
I AM NOT getting in that capsule unless it gets sent down with two beers and a bottle opener!!
