It's an ornate office in Indiana's beautifully maintained mid-19th-century Capitol, but the 49th governor of Indiana, Mitch Daniels, is not dressed to match the setting. He's just returned from spending the night in Princeton, Ind., staying at a constituent's house -- as he often does around the state -- and he's dressed in a work shirt and jeans.
I've known Mitch Daniels since he was a staffer for Sen. Richard Lugar in the 1980s, and for years he struck me as one of the least likely candidates for public office. He's got strong, mostly conservative convictions; he doesn't suffer fools (and elected politicians) gladly; he doesn't care if others don't like him. All those characteristics were on display when he ran the Office of Management and Budget for George W. Bush between January 2001 and June 2003.

Considering the path this country is on, DST is the least of my worries. :/
Besides, I love being able to mow at 10pm! :D
That is certainly a far more egregious offense, IMO. :)
He didn’t sell the highways, he leased the toll road. The bottom 2/3 of the state would probably rather pay less in taxes than fund a road they never use.
Exactly. Trace Adkins can tell us all about Bedonkadonk and pick our nominee. Wow! Such talent.
I have heard rumors from different close sources to Mitch Daniels that he would like to be Chief of Staff (to a President). If so, I doubt he’ll run. Or if he does, it will be for a post in a GOP Administration.
Given Daniels personality, and such an emphasis on state rights, a governor might be a good choice provided you have exceptional legislative staff surrounding the President. As it was explained to me, Daniels has good ‘analytic and processing skills’ and enjoys managing projects.
On a national level, given the ‘American Idol’ type atmosphere that surrounds a Presidential campaign & election, I don’t know if Mitch’s personality could catch traction.
I like his governing principles. But, I’m focused on Nov.
Best..
“He didnt sell the highways, he leased the toll road. The bottom 2/3 of the state would probably rather pay less in taxes than fund a road they never use.”
Doesn’t matter - a 99 year lease to me is a SALE. As to the people in south Indiana, nice try, but the people in the North pay (through gas taxes) for the southern highways too. Why do you hate the North so much, other than it being liberal union types - never mind?
May god bless your soul.....that no one wishes upon you, what you have wished on another.
This type of drivel is used on D.U. perhaps you should migrate over there and wish your hate on others in that forum.
But I’m not talking about paying for highways, I’m talking about the toll road. Nearly everyone in the state uses a highway near them at some point during the day/month/year. The same can’t be said for the toll road.
The toll road has never come close to paying for itself and the maintenance costs were astronomical every year. Tolls were going up one way or another because maintenance expenses keep going up.
Tell ya what, in the spirit of FRiendship, I’ll send you a kind donation for the toll road I don’t use if you’ll send me a property tax donation for a house you don’t live in. :D
(A tax, BTW, which is half what it was before Daniels.)
It can certainly be no worse than wishing a Mitch Daniels regime on the U.S.

LOL!
You have to be joking. Palin is the only candidate that has definitively pronounced what her policy is going to be on each and every issue that has come up, and in a most timely manner.
Daniels is nothing but a surrender monkey, and Jindal has made it plain that he believes that he is inelligible to be president under the constitutional requirements, so let’s not drag his name in against his wishes to inflate another chimera.

Adkins is just another drug culture fog head that wants to be identified with conservatives, but not live as one.

Well said.
You keep getting called on that and you will not post proof, either quit telling that lie throughout freerepublic, or post the quotes.
“A tax, BTW, which is half what it was before Daniels.”
Of course the tax is low - for now, after all he cashed out YOUR HIGHWAY and having billions of dollars to play with (from the sale) can even make a Democrat look fiscally responsible. The problem is that he also imposed a HUGE TAX on people that use that highway - once Cintra starts turning the screws, that residents and non-residents will be forced to cough up. We’ll see if his heroin-fix approach to the budget works to fool enough people to think that he’s some kind of a fiscal conservative. Hopefully it won’t and you guys can stew in his damage.
Sorry, but I’m really tired of paying for stuff that I don’t use: Wall Street bailouts, bank bailouts, WIC, 21st Century Scholars, food stamps, Section 8 housing, free cell phones for “the poor”, heating and utility assistance for “the poor”, free school lunches, free tuition, Medicaid, etc. My health insurance is set to go up again even though I’ve never yet filed a claim on it in order to pay for others.
If you don’t like the toll, don’t use the toll road. I wish I was given the same option with the programs above.
