It wasn't quite an endorsement, but you almost got the sense that Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., is rooting for Sen. Lisa Murkowski's write-in campaign in Alaska. Murkowski launched the write-in bid after losing the GOP primary last month to Joe Miller, who had the backing of the Tea Party movement.
Murray, visiting The Oregonian's editorial board on Tuesday, said that she and Murkowski "are very close friends" who have worked together on a wide range of issues.
Murray said that Murkowski recently told her that Tea Party candidates are making the argument that voters shouldn't trust Republicans who work with Democrats.
"If we elect people of either party who feel the mandate from their electorate is that they not work with the other," Murray said, "I don't know how democracy works."
In any event, Murray then added, "Well, let's see who wins. I mean, Lisa Murkowski, don't you count her out!"
Just for the record, the Democratic candidate in the race is Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams.
Murray, of course, is campaigning hard for reelection against Republican Dino Rossi. But she said having a narrower margin between the Democrats and Republicans in the Senate might actually make it easier to get some things done.
"When have those tighter frames is when I actually find that we can work better across the aisle," she said.
Whether that happens next year, Murray added, could depend a lot on what messages Republicans draw from the elections. If the Tea Party-backed candidates wind up losing in such states as Nevada and Delaware - both of which looked ripe for Republican pickup this year - that could encourage the Republican Party to look more toward the political middle, she said.
Hey Dino,it's a campaign ad;)
Murray wants her little Liza...ahhhh
How telling is that?
I’m glad I went Miller. I never want Liza anywhere near
a Republican office.
According to the LSM, Tea Partiers have approval from only 30% of Americans. If that is the case, then how come we are so successful in getting our candidates elected? Maybe it’s more like 51% are Tea Partiers and 30% of the remaining approve of the Tea Partiers.
“If we elect people of either party who feel the mandate from their electorate is that they not work with the other,” Murray said, “I don’t know how democracy works.”
Democracy doesn’t work. That’s why we have a democratic republic.
Patty Murray has two brain cells left, and they’re waving “good-bye” to each other.
What do you want to bet they became close because they were seated near each other in alphabetical order. These two dimwitted women probably found soul mates in each other. Maybe next year they can start a boutique or something together.
“Murray, visiting The Oregonian’s editorial board on Tuesday, said that she and Murkowski “are very close friends” who have worked together on a wide range of issues.”
That figures.
Senators can’t work across the aisle because Democrats like Murray, Reid, and Boxer have poisoned the well too much with their constant, nasty partisan attacks on their Republican colleagues.
No,let Senator Patty Murray(D)Washington State speak.
I'm interested in her views.
Are you kidding? A boutique involves actual work and some business acumen. It is way beyond the comprehension of the box of rocks and the little princess.
