Does obama have even a single idea which has any merit?

I have seen no evidence he does.

i agree in keeping students in the grade until they master the skills necessary to move forward... if lengthening the year is a way to do it, then so be it...

i believe local jurisdictions make the call... not obama...

Trying to put a little more distance between parents and kids. Check

Give kids more indoctrination time. Check

Opportunity to hire more union teachers. Check

School is simply taxpayer provided daycare for liberals. Many schools feed their students breakfast AND lunch with some now offering an early dinner just before the kids leave. Liberals HATE HATE HATE summer vacation. Anytime spent with the family and not with government indoctrination is a bad thing for liberals. This idea that if we somehow do a bad thing for a longer amount of time will make things better is silly.

Any 'idea' that Bozo has should be a HELL NO!!

EVERYTHING he's said, tried or made happen winds up to be crap.

Of course. It requires at least 425 days a year to learn all of the 57 states.

Start after “cough cough” labor day and finish before Memorial Day

This is part of the continuing trend toward year-around school. The Nanny state’s racism awareness centers want the children as much as possible. They should not be doing any real learning with a summer job.

First, we know Obama is all about unions.

Second, extend the school year to be full-time.

Third, give all teachers a 25% pay raise to compensate.

“Should the school year be lengthened as President Obama suggests?”

CERTAINLY NOT, if they are public/PUBIC schools.
He just wants more and faster Marxist indoctrination.

It’s NOT about LENGTH OF TIME!

It is ALL about what they are LEARNING.

If they would scrap the propaganda and focus on KNOWLEDGE, we wouldn’t NEED a LONGER DAY.

Ask any homeschooler. They spend LESS time teaching than a typical public school day and kids KNOW MORE.

Explain that.

I teach in a public school. My question for the President is, what business is it of his how long the states choose the school year to be? Isn’t his plate full enough with things he is supposed to be in charge of?

There are three elements to improving education performance. They are the the three elements that have been systematically removed from the system over the past 50 years.

Discipline, competition and accountability

I voted no because then the teachers would want to be paid twice as much money and we can barely afford them now!!

Kids could get better educations in a shorter school year. We did. As long as political correctness is worshipped at every level; teachers can’t pass basic literacy and competency tests; mommy and daddy take Junior’s side when he needs discipline; the textbooks are full of revisionist crap; kids are encouraged to be anti-American, anti-Christian, and pro-gay; students pass even when doing failing work; there’s no hope.

Two words: Home schooling.

But that’s just my opinion; I could be wrong.

Has anyone run the cost of this? More teachers, more schools using energy during off months, more maintenance, so far I see UNIONS taken care of...again.

Keeping students one day longer than necessary in these pitiful attempts at education for what is almost 100% social engineering... the Obama plan is Indoctrination, not Education. Parents should just say NO in fact, they had better Shout NO and run like heck from his Socialist agenda.

Does he have a single idea that doesn’t involve meddling in the minutia of our lives, butting in where he doesn’t have any constitutional authority? I don’t want the feds micro-managing our lives. Abolish the ridiculous Dept of Education which rightfully should be renamed Department of Agitprop.
