For the second time inside 24 hours I’m reminded of the stories from a friend who grew up in the Soviet Union. She barely knew her parents because they worked in different closed cities and she went to school in a 3rd.
The only times they lived as a family were during long holidays and summer break. Summer break was dictated by the state at a place picked by the state with structured activities.
