The former half-term Alaska governor said she "would offer [herself] up in the name of service to the public" and run for President in two years if "nobody else wanted to step up" during an interview on Fox News on Wednesday night.
Her latest statements have added further speculation that Palin is winking and nudging her way toward a 2012 run, especially with last Saturdays visit to Iowa for a GOP fund-raiser.
Iowa, of course, is a key early presidential voting state, with the caucuses there a critical first step on the road to securing a party's presidential nomination.
During the interview with host Greta Van Susteren, Palin said a reason to run would for President is if no one comes forward with "solutions that are needed to get the economy back on the right track."
She said that included "fighting those on the extreme left who seem to want to dismantle some of our national security tools that we have in place."
But the former vice presidential candidate, whose recent endorsements have helped several GOP contenders win their primaries, has been coy about an official announcement. Palin said she wasnt lured by a presidential title or personal power.
"I also know that anybody -- anybody -- can make a huge difference in this country without a title, without an office, just being out there as an advocate for solutions that can work to get the country on the right track," she said. "And thats where I am now."
Combine that interpretation with her stepping down as governor & I could see why some would be very skeptical about her desire to hold public office.
Being right is not enough, a campaign also have to be able to influence, persuade and inspire. Hunter had none of those qualities.
Duncan Hunter was great. He was very inspiring in person. He spoke with passion and love of country. One Memorial Day speech brought tears to my eyes.
Well if she runs, she’s got my support all the way.
Nah, many voters have more respect for the leadership AND executive ability that Palin has demonstrated.
Leaving the governorship 18 months early was the best thing, given all the circumstances, that she could do for the state and the country. Jindal is a bright young guy, but he doesn’t fit the strict definition of natural born, he’s too young, and he has minimal charisma. Bachmann is great, but neither likely nationally electable nor executive-experienced like Palin. Palin is a once-in-a-demonstration gem, even though, being human, she’s not perfect.
Mine too.
Yugo, girl.
Keep away McCain. He had his chance and blew it. I have a feeling that McCain, if he wins his Senate race, will be back in 2012 saying he is still the Party’s leading candidate.
Delusional man!!!!!
I agree, I think Sarah could decimate the Dems.
> I’d run in 2012 if “nobody else wanted to step up”
Mrs. Palin, unless Ronald Reagan himself steps up, you ARE our only hope for reform in government. We will take no substitutes.
More than just that, you also have to have an effective "network" of people to do the ground work for you.
We have a nobody running already.
Re #21
I don’t support Palin running but I do believe she has nice legs.
Yes it is - in fact, that's EXACTLY what we need - someone who DOESN'T want to be President. Remember George Washington - he sure as heck didn't want to be President.
Gingrich started off with that line, but has since changed it. Good GOPers don’t want to start out having to insult and dismiss all their opponents. They want to be able to say that while they are worthy candidates, I am the best one.
Huck won’t run.
His wife hated it.
Do we get the feeling from the very first words that Aliyah Shahid, probably a Muslim writing for this left-wing rag, doesn't much like Sarah?
It’s a question of venu. She doesn’t belong on Sesame Street in that outfit. It would be better if, say, she took over from Katie Couric on the evening news.
oops, sorry, wrong thread!
It will fall on Palin’s shoulders to take on the challenge. While other candidates may be as conservative, they too often lack the courage of their convictions.
