"Pledge to America" Unveiled by Republicans (Full Text)
CBS News ^ | Brian Montopoli

House Republicans just released a draft of their legislative agenda for the next Congress, a 21-page "Pledge to America" that they will formally unveil Thursday morning at a Virginia hardware store.

"The need for urgent action to repair our economy and reclaim our government for the people cannot be overstated," the introduction says.

It continues: "With this document, we pledge to dedicate ourselves to the task of reconnecting our highest aspirations to the permanent truths of our founding by keeping faith with the values our nation was founded on, the principles we stand for, and the priorities of our people. This is our Pledge to America."

It is certainly not bold enough.

It is not in keeping with the sentiment of the original consititution.

They will “allow” a 20% tax cut to small bidnesses...? Allow? That’s our money! That’s the same mistake that Chrissy Tingles Mathews was correcting the president on...

They tell us about the 10th amendment, but they want to “replace” the plan...The only thing that can replace the plan is the unfettered free market. They need to know when they need to get out of the way.

They corrupt the quote from the Declaration...Let me reiterate to all the RINOs out there, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO ABOLISH TYRANNY IN OUR LAND, not just to elect a different, lesser set of gentler tyrants. This is our God-given natural law inheritance. It is the natural law inheritance of all peoples, and we Americans take it seriously.
We need to let them know that these words are not just fancy, pleasant sounding American words...

These words are our American God-given birthright. Period. ...Without equivocation. ...Without revision. End of story.

I, for one, am disappointed. They miss the true sentiment of the Tea Party.

We are right to purge the RINOs, and this pledge - unsigned - is proof.

We need bold colors, bold contrasts.

I want to see them pledge life, liberty, honor and personal fortune...in blood. I want a pact with terms that mean something.

This pledge will simply slow our decline, not reverse it, not restore America, not restore the constitution.

And the idea that this is the incremental approach...that this is in “the realm of the possible”...Well, that arguement doesn’t fly with me.

Tell that argument to Mason, Jefferson, Washington...Tell that to the signatories of the Declaration and the Constitution and those that fought in the Revolution...Tell that to the legions of our war dead from every continent and every island and in every ocean...And ask them if they were willing to hand only a little bit of their freedom back to the tyrants...Ask them if another brand of tyrants would have been acceptable.

Pah!

The Wall Street Journal, 9 Dec 1948 (”Pepper and Salt”) The carping critic who can criticize the inartistic angle of the firemen’s hose while they are attempting to put out the fire, has his counterpart in a nameless individual in the British Foreign Office who once found fault with a projected speech by Winston Churchill. It was in the most tragic days of World War II, when the life of Britain, nay, of all Europe, hung in the balance. Churchill prepared a highly important speech to deliver in Parliament, and, as a matter of custom, submitted an advanced draft to the Foreign Office for comment. Back came the speech with no word save a notation that one of the sentences ended with a preposition, and an indication where the error should be eliminated. To this suggestion, the Prime Minister replied with the following note: “This is the type of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put.”

How about, also, explaining how they need veto-proof majorities in both the House and Senate, in order to override any and all Barack Obama vetoes of all of these things? Unfortunately, all of these things discussed by the GOP are moot, if Obama can, just, veto all of it.

Color me skeptical.

I'm straight up skeptical.

I'm seeing a pledge to America, but I know that their allegiance will still be to the lobbyists and to the pork and to winning the next election.

They can talk about trying to reign in Democratic spending, but until they reign in their own spending, they are useless.

What I want is the GOP to say from here on out that they will release an item-by-item accounting of the federal budget and whether they will or will not support each item.

I want them on the record about this, and I want them to swear that if they support any pork whatsoever or any "scratch my back I'll scratch your back" legislation, that they will step down in the next election and not run in the primaries, clearing the way for actual Conservatives to take their place.

I don't want a bunch of vague words or catchy slogans or political speak that is meant to appease naive Republicans and Conservatives, the kind who go into a car dealership or an electronics store after one thing and who get themselves conned into buying something they don't need at a much higher price.

I'm sick and tired of voting for liberals with (R) next to their name, and I'm not doing it anymore. Voting for a liberal with an (R) next to their name is still voting for a liberal. For too many years I was a Conservative every day of the year except on election day when I'd vote for RINOs and CINOs and I'm not doing that anymore, because continuing to support RINOs and CINOs enables them to stay in office and keep up their liberal agendas while keeping real Conservatives out of office.

I can guarantee you that every one of these Republican legislators who play up this pledge are still going to be feeding at the trough and pulling the pork for their districts.

I'm really beginning to warm up to some of the Tea Party stuff and saying the Hell with the Republicans because the last time the Republicans held both the White House and Congress, they managed to increase the size, expense, and power of the federal government and then they turned it over to Obama and the Democrats. They had their chance, and they blew it. They made things worse, and they are like the kid who keeps getting in trouble and getting away with it, saying "I'll be good next time" and that's just ridiculous.

AMEN TO THAT!

The only difference between a liberal Republican and a Democrat is the Democrat will speed us down the road to socialism a little quicker. In the end, we're still headed towards socialism.

And the idea that this is the incremental approach...that this is in “the realm of the possible”...Well, that arguement doesn’t fly with me.

100% agreed. There is nothing stopping the GOP from saying that they are stopping their support of all pork from here on out and that they are going to start reversing some of the Bush-era legislation that increased the size and power of the federal government.

Republicans want to start talking about responsibility and paying off the national debt and getting the deficit down and cutting taxes, let's start with the federal budget. Cut all of that pork, reign in the size and power of the federal government. Stop treating the American people like we are all cowards that need our hands held because the big bad world is a scary place and little old ladies need to be treated like terrorists at airports.

“Are we up to the task?”

Hell yes! Never, never have I been so determined to do whatever I must to save my country from socialist/marxist/communist/fascist/revolutionary rule than I am NOW. This is MY COUNTRY. My relatives fought and died in past wars, so that my family and I could live in this land of the free, and home of the BRAVE. WE ARE AMERICANS. We are the boots on the ground in this WAR AGAINST SOCIALISM, OPPRESSION AND TYRANNY.

Let's unite with others, go door to door and get the vote out. Be sure transportation is available for seniors and the disabled. Get your talking points together and PASS IT ON. Go to www.senateconservates.com OR www.freedomworks.org and give each candidate a few dollars, because a WIN for a conservative is a WIN for US ALL, no matter what state you live in. This is the election of our lifetime to date, and we must WIN BIG IN NOVEMBER. Do not allow anything to distract you from getting out there and working your fingers to the bone for the BIG WIN.

Remember that we must be successful on November 2. We will NOT get a second chance if we fail. Let's roll and take our country back!

Citigroup ate Ameriquest/Argent Mortgage in the fall of 2007.

Would the indigestion have killed them without TARP propping them up a year later?

Hmmmm.... questions, many.

Once again, the trolls stand in solidarity with the left.

Do you think they think we haven't noticed that over all these years? ;)

I say GO FOR IT. They know the American people are fed up with what they've said and done in Congress.

They know that they will be held accountable for inaction on these words, and will have their keisters thrown out if they don't follow through.

This is a GOOD start.

Hmmm...Not one damn thing about closing the borders or doing anything about the ILELGALS that are ruining the country.

I live in a border state where we've had a RINO as the governor for nearly 10 years and he wants another 4 years. The man wanted to guard Texas borders with webcams watched by plain citizens who he thinks have a lot of time on their hands. He probably got a good laugh out of it when he told his Bilderburger buddies. 'Course he wants open borders for his precious international super highway that we keep telling him we don't want.

The GOP wants open borders, plain and simple. They pretend that this is about not wanting to offend Hispanics, but it boils down to a lot of businesses benefit from the illegals, and they contribute a lot of money to Republican politicians. If you need any proof of that, you need only to look at George W. Bush being an open borders supporter and you need only look at one of the Senate's biggest proponents of amnesty, Juan McAmnesty, getting the GOP nomination.

In addition to forcing Republicans to stop with the pork, we need to start telling them that if they are not 100% dedicated to our national security, they are getting the boot. It pisses me off so damn much when I hear Republicans and Democrats talking about how we need more security, need full body scans at the airport, need to worry about terrorism and damned if they go and leave the southern border open to any damn terrorist who wants to sneak God knows what across.

The Canadians do a good job of securing their other borders to keep the bad guys out, it's a wonder they don't decide to build a wall between them and America, because we've made it way too easy for people to get across the Mexican border.

” They need not only to stand together as conservatives - but they need to list - and continue to list - how the progressives/liberals/Democrats lie, cheat, and steal from the taxpayers...I hope they push this down their throat and make sure every US Citizen understands that people like Obama can never or shall never be elected again”

I aggree, ram it down there throat until they choke and die as a party. The dems have in affect destroyed this country and if you read the bible there is not enough time left to fix it before the end..
P.S. I am a ex democrat from a long line of democrats who have all turned republican because the dem wit party abandoned conservatism.
