The Bay State race that could capture national attention kicks off today with Republican state Rep. Jeffrey Perry facing Democrat Norfolk District Attorney William Keating in what promises to be a knock-down, drag-out contest for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. William Delahunt.
A fired-up Perry came out of his corner with fighting words last night.
Were taking back our government starting right now, Perry told supporters at Plimouth Plantation, pledging to be a vote against Obamacare, to cut federal spending and to halt illegal immigration. The Sandwich representative, who bested former state Treasurer Joe Malone, Cohasset accountant Raymond Kasperowicz and Hanover lawyer Robert Hayden in the primary, vowed to help topple the Democratic leadership on Capitol Hill.
I will be part of a wave sweeping across this country of 39 or more Republicans wholl remove Nancy Pelosi from the speakers chair, he declared.
Keating, who topped Barnstable state Sen. Robert OLeary in a hard-fought Democratic bout, hit his own populist notes, promising to battle Washington pols beholden to big oil and fight attempts to raise the age for Social Security.
To every man, woman and child in the 10th district who wants to fix Washington, this victory belongs to you, Keating said.
The stakes of this campaign are high, Keating said.
The national GOP has targeted Massachusetts 10th district as one of several nationwide ripe for turnover. There are currently no Republican House members from New England.

Pelosi won what 78% of the vote in the last election?
Her biggest competition was Cindy Sheehan.
I would LOVE to see Pelosi lose. But it’s probably not going to happen.

This is a Massachusetts race. I think he meant that being elected and taking a current Democrat seat would help topple Pelosi as speaker.
The Herald sure could have written a better headline.

There are way too many politicians to count that really need some serious jail time.

I'm in the 5th CD, but Keating strikes me as a garden variety Democratic hack and there are a lot of normal people on the Cape, so good luck!
My representative, the eponymous (sic ;) Nikki Tsongas, is an extremely weak candidate who barely squeaked out a win in 2008, a Democratic year. Hopefully, she'll be gone in two.

Relinquish it, and Boehner should sell it on eBay.

"Pelosi won what 78% of the vote in the last election? Her biggest competition was Cindy Sheehan. I would LOVE to see Pelosi lose. But its probably not going to happen."Oh for Pete's sake. With all due personal respect, we really are the "stupid party."
Obviously they're not talking about Pelosi's race. They're talking about numerical control of the House so that the GOP can select a new speaker. Is it any wonder we are off in the political wilderness with this level of "situational awareness," aka ignorance? Sigh.
