Full statement by John Cornyn, head of the NRSC:
“Let there be no mistake: The National Republican Senatorial Committee – and I personally as the committee's chairman – strongly stand by all of our Republican nominees, including Christine O'Donnell in Delaware.
“I reached out to Christine this morning, and as I have conveyed to all of our nominees, I offered her my personal congratulations and let her know that she has our support. This support includes a check for $42,000 – the maximum allowable donation that we have provided to all of our nominees – which the NRSC will send to her campaign today.
“We remain committed to holding Democrat nominee New Castle County Executive Chris Coons accountable this November, as we inform voters about his record of driving his county to the brink of bankruptcy and supporting his party's reckless spending policies in Washington.
“In the weeks ahead, we will decide where to best allocate additional financial resources among the large number of competitive races at stake this November. While it's not in Republicans' interest to advertise our spending strategy to our opponents, it's worth noting that just yesterday, the NRSC's first independent expenditure ad aired in support of Dr. Rand Paul's campaign in Kentucky, where we firmly believe that he will win in November.
“It remains to be seen whether national Democrats will provide a similar level of support for many of their nominees, including in key battleground states like Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Arkansas, Illinois, and New Hampshire, among others. The Democrats' indecision reflects the fact that Republicans are on offense in at least 12 Democrat-held states and we are leading in the polls in seven of those 12 states.
“Finally, on the matter of the New Hampshire Senate race, while the results remain outstanding, we continue to monitor the Republican primary race, and we stand ready to fully support whichever candidate is chosen as the nominee.”
What is Rush going to say in the morning?
Apologize for an old friend or call him on it?
I didn’t watch any politics or POLS tonight but if the GOP turns against conservative voters trouble is brewing. Does Delaware have open primaries..
I did. I informed them that will get no more money from me.
I completely agree with your comment on the announcement - in fact even if it is a decision they’ve made there is no reason to officially announce something like that ever publicly in a statement. I also meant to include the words “it could be a” after “in this case”...I actually thought for a second you had edited that out and then saw what I had posted. Anyway, I don’t know that for sure, and it is just as valid to assume it is being done out of spite - but it is not consistent with their pattern of coming around and supporting the primary voters’ choice in other races once those candidates won the primary. This is the first one, if this report is accurate, where they would have not done that so far.
But aside from that, you just lifted my remarks completely out of context and ignored what I was responding to overall. You are encouraging people to not give to conservative candidates supposedly to send the NRSC a message, even though that would directly harm the very candidates you claim it would help (the NRSC wouldn’t care about getting complaints from candidates they aren’t already supporting and those candidates would already know they didn’t get support from the NRSC without you not donating to them). This would only cement the position of the NRSC and further harm the candidates that would need support. Sending them a message would be for those candidates to get a huge warchest to the point they don’t need the NRSC - that would make the NRSC notice, not drying up the funds further of candidates they aren’t supporting to begin with. Moreover, why not just contribute to the Our Country Deserves Better PAC or the Senate Conservatives Fund?
“So they will support the Democrat, I guess they want to lose.”....
It’s not so much they want to lose, but that they CHOOSE to lose unless we nominate of of ‘them’ as our candidate... in whatever race. As well as rejecting Christine O’Donnell in Delaware they are, by extension, rejecting conservatism and all of US.
Not another dime. I donate directly to the candidates I decide who deserves my money and my vote. Period. To he!! with the NRSC. I am sick and tired of having to hold my nose tightly shut in order to vote.....
I am sick and tired of the lessor of two evils garbage. Sooner or later it becomes time to stand on principle...... stand or fall..... or else we are not the people we claim to be.
A $10-100 donation from every FReeper would more than offset this abandonment by the GOP.
On Facebook there is a page “Not one more penny to the nrsc” page - Eric Erickson from RedState seems to have started it a while back.
Agreed...no more Faustian bargains to simply hang or try to gain power. Integrity and principle(s) and standing up for those principles is far more important to me and I believe most everyone feels the same!!! I second your thoughts....time to take the country back!
Head of the RNC is EXACTLY where Palin needs to be right now.
Michael Steele:
You have insulted us for the last time. You publicly announce your lack of support for a candidate because your hand picked guy didn’t win?
Whose side are you on, really? Many of us feel you and the party have been playing an insider game far too long and enough is enough!
So long you as you are head of the RNC I will not take your calls or even open your letters.
The Republican voter has changed and you and your friends or the cabal of country club Republicans are dinosaurs.
Giving money and support to Crist, Specter, Scuzzyfavor, Chaffee, Snow, Collins? Unacceptable!
Have fun. That little light in the corner of your eye is your career dissipation light.
Have a nice day!
I’ll bet he calls him on it.
Delaware was a closed primary.
They are supporting the candidates in the other races that won in the primaries for the general - Joe Miller, Sharron Angle, etc. This is the first one they have not. Of course, the polls showed in those other races the candidates were winning or within striking distance of winning. That is not the case here - yet.
You’ve got it........”The Rockefeller RINOs know their only shot at survival, their only shot of clinging to the tiny shred of power they have left is to sabotage real conservatives running in liberal RINO states in New England and the like.”
The ROCKY FELLERS have hurt the Repub. party way more than the Dems have.
I respect your points,, BUT, i personally believe it would only hurt good conservatives for 3 or 4 days. The point would hit them national GOP,,,,very hard and fast.
ANd when they are forced to reverse under our pressure, we own the party from that moment on.
Count me in
A-perfect_lady suggested on another thread that we all send the NRSC teabags.
I’m sending one in a sympathy card that hopes they find comfort in their memories. Of what they used to be. I also just sent the Lipton tea wrapper. Told them I didn’t want to waste a perfectly good cup of tea, let alone any more $ on them.
If you feel so inspired, their address is:
National Republican Senatorial Committee
Ronald Reagan Republican Center
425 2nd St. N. E.
Washington, D.C. 20002
They are not listening to us any more than the current administration is.
Caller: I am calling with the Republican....
Do you think....
