O'Donnell up 47-44 over Castle, in PPP poll!
Public Policy Polling ^ | 9/12/10 | dfergu7477

Raleigh, N.C. – It looks like there’s a real possibility of a major upset in the Delaware Senate primary on Tuesday night, with insurgent conservative Christine O’Donnell leading longtime Congressman and Governor Mike Castle 47-44. That 3 point lead is well within the poll’s margin of error. If Castle is indeed defeated Tuesday night it will be yet another sign that conservatives have a strangle hold on the Republican Party and moderates may or may not be welcome anymore. Castle has an overwhelming 69-21 lead with moderate voters but they only make up 33% of the likely primary electorate. O’Donnell has a 62-31 lead with conservatives that’s more than enough to propel her to the overall lead. It’s clear that Castle’s popularity has taken a sharp turn in the wrong direction over the last month. An August PPP poll found his favorability with Delaware Republicans at a 60/25 spread. Now his favorables within the party are negative at 43/47. That’s largely a product of 55% of voters in his party saying they think he’s too liberal compared to 37% who think he’s about right. GOP voters are pretty sharply divided about O’Donnell as well. 45% have a favorable opinion of her with 41% seeing her unfavorably. Only 50% of primary voters think she’s fit to hold public office but she does much better than Castle on the ideology front- 53% think she’s about right. If O’Donnell pulls it out Tuesday night it will be a major victory for Delaware’s small but united group of Tea Party voters. Just 25% of Republicans in the state consider themselves to be members of that movement but they give her a 79-18 advantage that’s more than enough to overcome her 52-39 deficit with everyone else.

Wouldn’t it be a nice change if O’Donnell wins the primary, and Castle then decides to run as an Independent, thereby splitting the liberal vote in DE?

Defeating Castle is winning the war.

Whichever way this turns out in the primary, or if O’Donnell wins and then loses the general, it is still a totally big win for conservatives.

The message is clear - don’t expect us to accept anymore RINOs in the party!

Looks like the Democrats just about have this Senate seat in the bag.

Onyx, do you remember a thread today about Castle, Biden, some kind of scandal? Was it something about Biden's son wanting that seat?

I cannot remember it, I saw the headline in passing and now can't find it...thanks!

When O’Donnell LOSES what should have been an easy GOP pickup by Mike Castle, we’ll be sorry...

Oh for crying out loud... Get a grip. We are not talking about handicapping a football game, we are talking electing those who we want to represent us. If you can't vote for the one you think is best, but only for the one that you think can win, stay home instead. This is a deadly serious event in our country, not to be taken lightly. How do you think we arrived here in the present condition? I posit because voters with your attitude vote for the cute one, that looks like he can win. Winning an election is not a game, rather good governance is the goal, and we want someone to represent us, not the face powder industry.

When the public reads “Citing “Mental Anguish,” Christine O'Donnell Sought $6.9 Million in Gender Discrimination Lawsuit” (see FR post), she is toast.

Read the article and ask yourself, when are Conservatives going to stop supporting every scammer and nut job who attends a few Tea Parties and then proclaims themselves a Conservative.

Read the article.... AND DO SOME CRITICAL THINKING. She is a nut job and a scammer.

Dont count your Consrvative losses before they hatch. People are loving Conservatives in the general.

I’m glad everyone is so thrilled about keeping the Delaware the seat to the Democrats for four more years. O’Donnell is such a flawed candidate that she’ll be lucky to break 40 percent of the vote in the general election.

I fear that a maybe sure seat might not be....but look at it this way...we've been hiding like sissies for decades because we all had to have candidates to "get along" and appear "mainstream"...whatever that means....

if Castle wins, his vote will be meaningless because he ususally votes with the demons....so why bother ....

Sweet! This explains why the tools at Castle-central are flinging every bit of mud at O'Donnell they can find!

Time to blow up this Castle!

Win the battle..lose the war

Wrong. Even if O'Donnell loses in the general, we'll have one less back-stabbing RINO in the senate to worry about. So it's actually:

Win the small battle, lose the larger battle, win the decisive battle later, win the war.

That's how this works, junior.

Speak for yourself. Any time we can knock off a RINO, it's a major plus. They are a long-term drain on the party that pushes the GOP farther to the left, away from the American mainstream.

And as you should have noticed by now--RINOs always fight harder against conservative than against Democrats. That should tell you something.

Thanks, Bray. This year, it will be different.

Here in Illinois, the GOP has been pushing themselves as Democrats-Lite for decades. And where has it gotten them? ONE, count her, ONE statewide GOP office holder! And she is a disgusting RINO, to boot.

THIS YEAR, we finally have a conservative running for Governer and—low and behold—he is substantially ahead in the polling versus the RAT. Ironically, the GOP senate nominee is a RINO and he’s only at break-even with a terrible RAT candidate.

People are sick of what’s been going on in Washington, and will vote conservative because they’ve gotten a strong dose of what liberalism/socialism truly is—Armageddon for this great nation.

The “nutjobs” are not the ones who want to change this mess, but the current status quo fruitcake representatives who got us into it!
