If Palin runs for president: Her strengths won't be a lot of help
The Chicago Tribune ^ | September 12, 2010 | Steve Chapman

Posted on 09/11/2010 1:25:26 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It turns out Sarah Palin left the governorship of Alaska for a better position. She's become king — King Midas, to be exact. Everything she touches turns to gold.

Her memoir, "Going Rogue," was the best-selling hardcover nonfiction volume of 2009. She's got a TV gig with Fox News that reportedly pays $1 million a year. She commands $100,000 for a speaking appearance.

But it's not all about the money. Palin has also become the fairy godmother of the Republican Party. In the Aug. 31 primaries, all five candidates she tapped with her wand came away victorious — including Joe Miller, who upset incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Those she passed over turned into pumpkins.

"Sarah Palin has special medicine," wrote John Dickerson of the liberal online magazine Slate after the primaries. "The Palin brand now grows ever stronger because other Republicans will want to access that magic."

All that looks like the perfect prelude to something even bigger. After steadfastly refusing invitations for political gatherings in Iowa, site of the first presidential contest in 2012, she's going to Des Moines on Sept. 17 for the Republican Party's annual Reagan Day dinner. To run for president, one local GOP official was quoted saying, "She needs to be here — and she's doing that with a big, high-profile event."

If she enters the race, Palin will have the inside track. A recent Gallup poll found that among Republican voters, she's more popular than Abraham Lincoln, with a 76 percent favorable rating — higher than any other potential GOP presidential candidate listed by Gallup. The nomination is starting to look like it's hers for the asking.

But appearances are deceiving.(continued)

Anyone who trusts her is a fool !

She will sell out to the highest bidder.

She does not have any principles.

Some people are great judges of character.

You aren't one of them.

Well stated, upsdriver! Nobody knows more about oil and energy than Sarah Palin. The “know-it-all’s” are in for a shock, and a whole lot of awe, “if” she decides to run.

she would have spent the past two years making herself plausible as president.

What the hell does Chapman think has been happening?

He knows but he's 'trying' propaganda on the clueless, the easily persuaded. That's all they have is propaganda. And, as you know, a few freepers are hungry for their dish of poop!

LMAO .... YOU ARE OUTDOING THE LEFT.
At least my dad says Sarah is a nice woman, but we don’t need a female president.
Sarah has more balls than most. I think she is our American Margaret Thatcher. I think she would be marvelous. Now, I don’t care if she runs or not. I am just fine with her living her life exactly like she wants to.

You need to change your tag line. That and calling people names doesn’t match very well.

, you're sorta dumb.

I may be dumb but not a twit.

In the Republican Party,
my current touchstone is Jim DeMint

That is a strange job.
Both Carter and Reagan ? And they both knew about you ?

So being an intelligence analyst is now defined as "strange."

Wouldn't that be a career position, rather than a politically dependent one? Doesn't the intelligence community exist independently from the political arena?

Sheesh already.

We don’t know what she does in private, how much studying she is doing behind the scenes. She is smart, has “advisors”, we just don’t know who.

"Strange?"

If being an intelligence analyst for more than one administration is "strange" then there are a lot of strange people out there. I wrote the twice-daily Korean DMZ Report for President Carter and his senior advisors and prepared & assisted in all kinds of briefings and reports for President Reagan and his senior people, so yeah, they both knew me. Does a CEO know his business intelligence or marketing staff? He/she does if he/she likes his/her job.

It amazes that a PDS thread gets to 100 posts so easily anymore. Go Sarah!

All Palin has done is make herself a major media phenomenon, as well as a wealthy woman.”

So she would have been in a better position to run for President if she had retreated into obscurity and filed for bankruptcy?

BTW, weren't then former Governor Reagan's poll numbers about the same in 1978?

Palin is no Reagan.

He said he was working for both parties at the same time

Is that your claim to fame ?

I have only worked for one party at a time.

She uttered the words “death panel” and turned the American public against Obamacare.

She is extremely powerful and has gone around the press to get her message out in preparation for a Presidential run.

Successfully.

Welcome Back, Dad

I've been trying to convince my fellow conservatives that they have been wasting their time in a fruitless quest for a new Ronald Reagan to emerge and lead our party and our nation. I insisted that we'd never see his like again because he was one of a kind. I was wrong! Wednesday night I watched the Republican National Convention on television and there, before my very eyes, I saw my Dad reborn; only this time he's a she. And what a she! This was Ronald Reagan at his best -- the same Ronald Reagan who made the address known now solely as "The Speech," which during the Goldwater campaign set the tone and the agenda for the rebirth of the traditional conservative movement that later sent him to the White House for eight years and revived the moribund GOP. Welcome back, Dad, even if you're wearing a dress and bearing children this time around.

~Michael Reagan, conservative radio host, chairman of the Reagan Foundation and son of President Ronald Reagan

I trust only YHvH.

I would recommend that to all.

With our current administration,
I'm not sure there will any elections in 2012.
