I was asleep in my college dorm room when the first plane hit. My roommate got a call from his girlfriend at the time and he turned on the tv. He woke me up and told me that a plane had just hit one of the World Trade Towers. I was not impressed but we got up, watched FOX news and didn’t quite realize what was going on.

I was just leaving when a second plane hit the second tower...then I knew something bad was happening to our country. I went to class, found a TV in a lounge and watched the events unfold with a friend. We watched in horror as the buildings came down. We both cried. My teacher, who was ex-CIA, tried to rally his class, but he was visibly shaken. The other members of my class just stared blankly ahead. We all prayed and cried...for the dead, for their families, for the heroes, for our Country and for our President. He wasn’t perfect, but I took comfort knowing that Bush was our President.

I was at work close to a military when the planes hit the WTC. Free Republic was very difficult to get into that morning so we watched TV and saw what was happening. We had to stay at work but when I went home I was glued to the TV and the computer.

Simply put, we have allowed an islmao-fascist, foreign-born, communist bastard to usurp the highest office in the land.

God bless you and your mates for your service, TT.
I sure wished I could drop some ordnance after 911.
Thank you all for doing it for me.

I would have been in my office (here is a photo I took from the roof of the building) but I had a meeting in Queens that morning.

The Lord woke me in the middle of the night last night to pray. I turned on Free Republic as soon as I got up, wondering why I needed to pray for the country in the night. Haven’t seen any headlines about attacks so far, PTL.

I was programming at work in my cubicle when someone said, “Hey, a plane’s hit the WTC!” I immediately went to my news source, FR and began reading the live thread. I immediately suspected a terrorist attack. The second plane confirmed it. The whole office building of 1600 was subdued while groups of people watched the TV monitors and gathered in conference rooms to watch the coverage.

I knew this was war and I knew it would be a long one. I expected an invasion of Afghanistan. I didn’t expect us to miss Osama, but there is some evidence he is dead—it’s just not conclusive.

Both the Afghanistan invasion and the the Iraq one were far more successful than I (or the news media) imagined. The post war clean up were highly unsuccessful. We kind of muddled to partial success in Iraq; Afghanistan is not much safer than it was in December 2001.

Wise diplomacy and effective intervention would help in both countries; I don’t expect that until our next President.

I and my wife were feeding my first born son breakfast and watching the "Bear in the Big Blue House" when my Mother called and said, turn the channel, I don't know what is happening but it is bad.

Forgive because God commands it, but NEVER forget because that would just be ignorant.

If Islam is such a peaceful religion, where were all the protests in support of the victims murdered by their "fringe" elements? Oh wait, I believe all the protests were in support of the "fringe" elements. Curious, huh?

Thank you for your service, David. I am so grateful.
I was at my daughters..in the backyard when my SIL informed us he had heard on his car radio that a plane had hit the WTC ..could it be terrorism? ..I was in denial about the implications until we came in the house and turned on TV..Shock, horror as the second plane hit...grief...in a daze. Then the awful anger came.
We stayed transfixed on the TV and had FR on the computer..
I don’t think I cried for days..just felt like I had a large concrete block on my chest..
I remember that feeling of solidarity in the days after.

Got any rib places that will deliver in the area....Consider having an “eat-in” just saying.

A few bones lying around would attract every stray dog in NYC. Leaving the bones in the door way and on the window sills could be quite effective.

I was in calculus class, senior year of high school.

Our state senator’s son came in 30 minutes late, as usual, and said “sorry I’m late, a plane hit the World Trade Center.” The teacher said “that’s a weird excuse this time,” and he said “no, really...look” and turned on the TV.

We didn’t get back to the lesson plan...but we got an even greater lesson that day.

Never forget: http://attacked911.tripod.com/

(I watch this tribute every year. If it doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, then you have no soul.)

On that day I was visiting a friend who was fighting lung cancer. He was in a morphine induced sleep during the attacks.

When he woke up he was all smiles. I sat him down to tell him of the day’s events and he thought I was joking, then the TV came out of commercial break and showed the replays.

He was a Korean War/Viet Nam vet. His words were few: “We are going to war.”
