Report: Suspected suicide bomber arrested in Copenhagen

Copenhagen - Police in Denmark arrested a suspected possible suicide bomber Friday following a small explosion at a hotel in central Copenhagen, media reports said.

Danish daily Extra Bladet showed on its website a photo of the suspect, who had reportedly attempted to blow himself up. Police did not immediately confirm the report.

No one was injured in the explosion at the Jorgensen Hotel. Police handcuffed the man after he was seen running away from the hotel and into the nearby Orstedsparken park. The park was evacuated and the surrounding streets were cordoned off as explosive experts were called in.

There have been fears of a possible attack by radical Islamist in Denmark ever since the 2005 publication by the Danish media of controversial cartoons depicting the Islamic prophet Muhammed.

Friday's bomb scare took place a day before the anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks in the United States.

He understands some English, his translator for the court is a French language speaker, forged ID, one can only speculate...

LONG SHOT: If you are a doctor (especially one that sees prosthetic patients in/or from Western Europe); maybe seeing this prosthetic leg might give a clue as to where the bomber is from.

Earlier today Belgian officials said they were investigating the man’s identity after that country’s Het Nieuwsblad newspaper reported he was holding Belgian identification papers. The suspect had also booked a bus ticket from Copenhagen to Brussels shortly after arriving in Copenhagen on 7 September.

It is also known that the suspect speaks French, German and English.

At this point, there is no evidence indicating the man was working with others, Foldager said.

Foldager also downplayed reports in today’s Danish press that Jyllands-Posten newspaper was the bomber’s target.

Yes, well he scratched out the ID number on the prosthetic leg, but maybe someone can raise the numbers via a chemical. Unknown to me if this is possible.
