With his presidency at a crossroads, President Obama will face the media Friday at his first press conference since the spring.
As an increasing number of political analysts predict that Republicans will win the House this fall, Obama on Friday will defend his economic policies and hope to fend off questions about his weakened political standing.
The key for Obama will be to stay on message -- vote Democrat or return to the policies of the George W. Bush administration -- as reporters try to get the president to make news.
Obama addressed some of the most burning questions by sitting down for a TV interview while traveling to Cleveland on Wednesday.
In an interview with George Stephanopolous for ABC's "Good Morning America" that aired Thursday, Obama was asked repeatedly about Republican criticisms of his economic policies and the coming debate over whether to extend Bush's tax cuts.
Obama refused to threaten a veto over the increasing likelihood that Congress will extend all of the tax cuts for a year or two, which would hand the GOP a victory.
The president also voiced confidence that his party will win the mid-term elections this fall, despite polls suggesting Republicans have a good chance of winning the House, and an outside chance of winning the Senate.

We escaped Texas heat last month to relax in your mountains. One of my absolute favorite places on earth.
New Jersey?
You got a problem with that?? (heehee)
If I snore and nobody is in the room to hear it, did I really snore?
So far, it’s all been a waste of time.
The droning on and on should be interrupted by a ‘slap you silly’ speech from Palin. At least I’d be in a better mood and not feel like I have wasted a good part of the morning.
Obama makes me understand why some folks drink before noon.
Good question.
Bad answer.

THE Q&A THE KORAN, JAKE ETC..
QUOTE: 11:41 a.m. — The first question about potential Quran burning — ABC News asks if Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ call to Florida pastor Terry Jones gave him too much attention. Jake Tapper of ABC also asks about a new report showing that health care costs will rise.
Obama does not use Jones’ name, but argues that the plan by “this individual” to burn Qurans is not only contrary to the American ideal, but threatens the lives of soldiers in Muslim countries. The president also suggests that the media is more responsible for making Jones a global figure — “I hardly think we’re the ones who elevated this story,” the president says.
As for health care, Obama says the plan to “bend the cost curve” is a long-term proposition, and won’t happen right away. He argues that the benefits of the legislation — expanding coverage to most Americans — outweigh other considerations.
One more question from Jake: What about Democrats running against the health care plan?
Obama says every candidate has to run his or her own race.
when we start acting like their religion is offensive, what does it say to them
Just listening to Rush, he said he saw it behind Jak(ob)e Tapper when he stood up....
yeah, Tom just had (*cringe*) a revolver! Luckily, Jerry was able to blow into the end of it, which blew the bullets into Tom’s mouth, then he hit Tom over the head with it, and Tom blew up. Jerry wound up in a plate of pancakes. My 4 year-old was laughing! lol
he’s outta here
