With his presidency at a crossroads, President Obama will face the media Friday at his first press conference since the spring.
As an increasing number of political analysts predict that Republicans will win the House this fall, Obama on Friday will defend his economic policies and hope to fend off questions about his weakened political standing.
The key for Obama will be to stay on message -- vote Democrat or return to the policies of the George W. Bush administration -- as reporters try to get the president to make news.
Obama addressed some of the most burning questions by sitting down for a TV interview while traveling to Cleveland on Wednesday.
In an interview with George Stephanopolous for ABC's "Good Morning America" that aired Thursday, Obama was asked repeatedly about Republican criticisms of his economic policies and the coming debate over whether to extend Bush's tax cuts.
Obama refused to threaten a veto over the increasing likelihood that Congress will extend all of the tax cuts for a year or two, which would hand the GOP a victory.
The president also voiced confidence that his party will win the mid-term elections this fall, despite polls suggesting Republicans have a good chance of winning the House, and an outside chance of winning the Senate.

Get your ‘BLAME BUSH” pins while they last!
“Id watch this nonsense if the only one asking questions was Gov Christie of NJ.”
Yup, Gov. CC is the man! Zero is the wo-man!
“What are the phrases for the drinking game? I propose shots of your favourite high-caffeinated beverage.”
I am in for, “Let me be perfectly clear.”
And my “finish the glass” question for the game is, “President Obama, you were scheduled to play 8 rounds of golf during your vacation and you only played 6. Was this due to the Republican distractions caused by their unwillingness to compromise on your $50 billion jobs package?”
Exactly right! A one-way ticket on the Freeway to Hell, accelerator on the floor and nary a crossroad to be seen anywhere.
OK. Tell us which ones to print out. We can have several rounds of it. Winner gets an FR kudo.
We need organization.
First Question:
Mr President oh magnificent, after the last 10 yrs of disasterous economic mismangement and horrible foreign affairs were you surprised how hard it would be to bring us out of the Bush recession? and I have a followup...
THANKS!
Drink for every "Let me be clear".
The key for Obama will be to stay on message — vote Democrat if love the pain you have now.
That’s it! The first source for the Bingo card is the one I was talking about!
Thank you!
Hilarious! Hadn’t seen it before. Thanks for the link. Really infectious laughter, isn’t it?

It will be like the tough questions lobbed at Stalin by Pravda....
"My God. Did I say 'denigrate?' Oh, my Leader, I am so very sorry."
You may all be correct, but I expect at least a baring of teeth from some members of the press.
