I would rather trust the local fire investigators in the area. They are not so likely to have political motives. Anyone working for Obama is suspect in my eyes.
That being said. I feel really sad for these people tonight. What a horrible tragedy no matter what the cause.

No room for a pool on that lot. I wonder what the excavation was for

Oh, thank you. I have a better understanding now. Since the PG & E hasn’t shut-off the gas, I am pondering that the values are located too close to the areas of the fire.

IS EARTH CAVING IN? THIS ALSO HAPPENED TODAY. SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- A man walking on a sidewalk in downtown Saint Paul was hurt when the ground literally fell away beneath him. A 15-foot-deep sinkhole opened up near the intersection of 6th and Wabasha Streets on Tuesday morning, right next to the Ecolab building, just as the man was walking over it. The man was identified as 55-year-old David Clark Tuesday afternoon by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

RICHFIELD, Minn. -- A Richfield man says he's grateful no one was home when an explosion demolished his house Thursday afternoon. Denny Kleven said a friend called and told him about the explosion. Kleven initially thought it was a joke. "When I walked up [it] was just a big crater," he said. http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=871164&catid=391

Same here. We will likely wake up to hearing a lot of injuries and fatalities. This comes at a bad time with the 9/11 anniversary.

Based on your pictures and "cruising" the neighborhood with Google Maps, I believe I've identified where it started.
It's between Claremont Drive and Earl Ave, just west of Glenview Drive.
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.622914,-122.442056&spn=0.002088,0.001907&t=h&z=19
If you zoom in on that area, it appears that the back fence of the houses on the south side of Claremont and the north side of Earl end close to the houses. There's a corridor about 50 feet wide.
Or maybe those are retaining walls instead of fences? It looks like the terrain has a good slope on Glenview.

Prayers for all involved, including the first responders. The pictures alone were scary to see. I haven’t had the TV on tonight, so would have missed this news if it weren’t for FR. Always on top of the news when the MSM isn’t!
