Figures that a pair of loony-tunes like Phelps and Jones would see eye-to-eye.

While in the eyes of the law, the pastor who plans to do this Koran burning has the legal right, on the moral side of the question, should he do it?

If this guy was smart, he would 'symbolically' burn the Korans. After the event was over, send the Korans to the paper recycling center to be shredded. Surely paper recycling isn't AGAINST THE LAW.

A second option is to put a pile of Bibles out next to the Korans, and burn the Bibles. One Bible for each of the 3000 who died on 911. Burn them in HONOR of those who died. Then, send the Korans to the shredder to be discarded as useless trash.

Wouldn't the FEDS just poop their drawers?

Would they tell this church they can't burn Bibles? This is how we beat them at their own game.

The best solution is to simply ignore them and not feed their need of attention.

Everyone has the right of 'free speech', just as everyone has the right not to listen.

some in here could`nt care less. As long as Jones burns some korans, they are perfectly comfortable with his supporting “God hates soldiers.”

Ugh. I don't get it.

That is an extreme statement that doesn't hold water, P-Marlowe.

It does hold water. The point was that politics makes for strange bedfellows.

While those who support the idea of having a Koranic bonfire to commemorate 9/11 happen to be on the same side of this issue with Pastor Jones(who happens to like Fred Phelps), those on the other side of the issue (those that are condemning the burning of the Koran as a "dangerous" or foolhardy act) are actually joining in the chorus with the likes of Obama, Hillary, Eric Holder and basically all the terrorists who have issued death threats against Jones.

Tell me, Ohio, have you seen any media reports which indicate that the FBI or Homeland Security are actually investigating the hundreds of death threats against Jones? What do you want to bet that, if anything, they are actually investigating Jones himself?

You are hereby nominated to take this exercise over from Pastor Jones who lost his ammo if true that he supported “God hates soldiers.”

Lately all my books are on "Kindle". Which is kinda of an ironic name for a program that puts books on your computer.

If we are going to join in the chorus of those who condemn him for this act, then we have to realize that we are joining in with the likes of Obama, Eric Holder, Hillary Clinton and Osama Bin Laden

Just thought of a question for you, P....

Was U.S. opposition to the Nazis wrong because Stalin also opposed them?

Isn't the reason behind our opposition the crux of the matter, and not the fact that others agree with the opposition for entirely different (and opposing) reasons?

Those of us who oppose this irresponsible act are not in agreement with Osama bin Laden OR Eric Holder.

We are in opposition because of our conservative principles, our understanding of what it means to be Christian and Americans.

I understand that there will be others who have a different take on this, and feel that rights supercede responsibility and discernment, but if we're being completely straightforward about it, then all conservative, Christian Americans should support the Ground Zero mosque for the same reason......should we not?

Agreed. And not everyone is getting behind this. A good many freepers thinks its the wrong execution of the right idea, let alone not the best display of Christian principles.

This is an entirely separate, non-germane issue to the discussion.

However, your insistence that those of us who oppose this act (and consider it actually a violation of 9/11), are "joining the chorus" of terrorists, liars and theives is highly offensive and does nothing for your argument.

See my above question. If we opposed Fascism on principles of liberty, we were not in the same chorus as Stalin who didn't like the competition.

Completely fallacious comparison. Sorry. It doesn't hold water.

Book burning is a BAD idea

Why?

It is symbolic. It hurts no one (unless some of the burning ashes land in your eye).

The early Christian church held a public book burning as noted in Acts 19.

FWIW the first public burning of copies of the Koran were done by Muslims in order to purge the Koran of the "Satanic Verses" which supposedly were dictated to Mohammad by Satan instead of by Allah (apparently Mohammad had trouble distinguishing between Satan's voice and Allah's voice [not that there was any difference]).

Acts 19 is not an apt comparison. The early church was led by the Holy Spirit and this was a singular act.

There is nothing in Acts 19 or any other passage of Scripture that supports burning any book you don't like.

Actually we were. We were allied with Russia in WWII. Or did you forget that fact? It didn't make us commies, but it did make us allies in THAT fight.

In this fight you are allied with Obama, Eric Holder and Hillary Clinton. I am allied with Pastor Jones. I don't particularly like any of them. But on this front, my views are closer to Jones than they are to Eric Holder.

I’m awaiting confirmation of the Westboro accusation.

Early on in this CAIR passed misinformation that Jones had had a child porn charge in the past....turned out to be untrue. Does CAIR = Committee Arab Islamic Relations...or something like that.

Either way, the need to burn a host of books, to demonstrate freedom, and among them a koran, is still a good idea.

It’s just paper and ink. We don’t worship the bible. I’d even put a bible in the bonfire to underscore the point.

Actually the Old Testament is filled with references to burning the sacred items of idolators. The Muslims treat the Koran as a sacred object and not merely as a book. Hence it would be in the same category as an idol. If the Muslims treated it as nothing more than a book, then burning it would not invoke such a visceral response. It is their idol.

FWIW the Christian Church has a loooooooooooooong tradition and history of burning books it didn't like.

Let's start with "The Message". Maybe that will send a "Message" to the publishers.

Nope, because Islam is not a religion. It's a political movement. The cultic aspects are merely the ruse to establish a despotic regime and, in our case, overthrow the Constitution.

The Constitution, as some famous American said, is not a "sucide pact" in which rights can be finessed to overthrow those same rights.

I used to think the “Living Bible” was really loose...until I read some of “The Message” one day.

It was awful.
