New polls spell gloom for Obama's Democrats

WASHINGTON (AFP) – New opinion polls Tuesday made painful reading for President Barack Obama's Democrats, cementing conventional wisdom that they face a pounding by Republicans in November's congressional elections.

The surveys, published after the Labor Day weekend, the traditional campaign kick-off date, suggest voters have soured on Obama, see him as too liberal and are increasingly pessimistic about the sluggish economic recovery.

At a time of high unemployment and economic pain, it appears that the cocktail of hope and change that powered Obama to the presidency has drained away and that a short era of Democratic political dominance may be closing.

Yet, the polls also suggest that despite their anger at incumbent Democrats, the public has little genuine affection for Republicans, opening possible lines of attack for the White House as it seeks to limit the damage.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows Republicans have a yawning 49 percent to 40 percent advantage among likely voters, which would probably be enough for them to grab back control of the House of Representatives.

All 435 House seats are up for grabs along with 37 of the 100 Senate seats in the November 2 election.

Several key analysts believe Republicans are in reach of winning the 39 seats they need to capture the House but are less likely to snatch the Senate.

Should Republicans win or capture both chambers, they could spell the end of Obama's sweeping reform agenda and usher in a period of tense divided government.

If he loses the House, a string of Executive $-obligating Orders will ensue - a whole array of them. It is then up to the Republican Congress to DEFUND his KENYAN ASS.

I see the Rats are still fooling themselves into thinking that the victories by the GOP in November will be small.

There are not enough republicans in many states and districts to deliver a pounding. Obama and his socialist allies are facing a pounding from Americans. Most real Americans are disgusted by the overreach, the phenomenally irresponsible waste of our children's and grandchildren's tax dollars, and by the arrogance of the nanny state liberals who demand power over every aspect of our lives despite our objections. The incumbent Dems face a pounding by republicans and by independents, while a pleasantly large proportion of the almost equally disgusted Dems will simply stay home. The only voting block that will bother to show up for the Dems is their dead voters, but nothing keeps them away from the polls.

“Should Republicans win or capture both chambers, they could spell the end of Obama’s sweeping reform agenda and usher in a period of tense divided government.”

Geeze, as if that were a bad thing! I would much rather have a “tense divided government” than one unified in its mission to turn the US into a third world debtor nation.

It stops here folks.

I just love a tense, divided government, especially with a socialist in charge.

"I see the Rats are still fooling themselves into thinking that the victories by the GOP in November will be small."

The only poll that counts is on the first Tuesday in November or November 2, 2010 this time around. Take nothing for granted. The Democrats will be voting early and often as usual!

That’s all nice and everything, but don’t celebrate until the day after the election. Expect three October surprises per day.

[The Journal survey shows that Democrats are viewed positively by 36 percent of those surveyed — actually higher than the 30 percent who had a favorable view of Republicans.]

The liberal media seems incapable of understanding what this poll finding means. This is not a positive for Democrats. The Democrats get a favorable opinion from their base, all of it. The Republicans are not getting a favorable view from a lot of the conservatives in their base but these voters are still going to show up in droves and pull the lever for the R candidates. The 34% who view both parties negatively are going to break about 80-20 to the Republicans, IMO.

(Continuation of above post)

This finding just proves that a large portion of the voters reject the big government ways of both parties and dislike both political parties.
