The month of September 2005 was a very busy month for President Bush after Katrina came on land at the Gulf coast and damaged the area. We see President Bush and First Lady Laura visiting New Orleans and other affected areas in Louisiana and Mississippi to comfort the victims of the hurricane and bring aid
The country lost Chief Justice William Renquist who passed away on September 3, 2005
President Bush nominated Judge Roberts to become the next Chief Supreme Court Justice. On September 29th Justice Roberts was sworn in as the 20th? Supreme Court Chief Justice.
President Bush remembered 9/11 heroes at a Medal of Valor ceremony. He also met with several foreign leaders and addressed the Useless Nations
For the quote of the month I have chosen President Bushs Remarks which he gave at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service on September 16, 2005
((Ping!))

Fewer than 50 towns in America can claim to be the hometown of a president. That Midland is one of those is just one of the many things that sets it apart.
Some people may quibble over whether Midland was or wasn’t the hometown of George W. Bush — he was actually born in New Haven, Conn. But no one would argue that the president spent formative years of his life here — years that Bush readily admits shaped his character.
Bush has said West Texas is his home, and during two rallies that bookended his presidency, more than 100,000 people witnessed the president say on those two occasions: “This is my home.”
In a recent interview, the former president spoke fondly of his boyhood in Midland:
“I remember well riding my bicycle from our house on Ohio Street to Sam Houston Elementary School,” Bush said. “I also remember our little dog chasing me to school, and me having to tell the teacher I’d be right back after I took the dog back home. And even though I’d miss the opening bell, the teacher was very sympathetic of a young lad having to return his dog.”
Bush, the former principal owner of the Texas Rangers, also spoke of his lifelong affinity for baseball.
“I remember a lot of outdoor activities in Midland, particularly baseball,” he said. “When I got older — older being 11 or 12 — we moved to the outskirts of town on Sentinel Drive. We had a buffalo wallow in the back of the house that became a baseball park. I used to spend hours playing baseball with my pals, as well as little league ball.”
Jimmy Patterson interviewed George W. Bush for his book, “A History of Character: The Story of Midland, Texas,” which will be published in early 2013.

George W. poses with his family in this 1959 photo, our earliest photo of the future president during his youth in Midland. Also pictured, top row: father George H.W. Bush, and mother Barbara (who was pregnant with sister W.'s sister Dorothy at the time). In front, siblings Jeb, Neil and Marvin.
Wonderful! I love it!
Prayers for our wonderful Vice President Dick Cheney tonight that he may fully recover from his heart transplant surgery today.
You’re welcome baseballmom. STARWISE and I try to do our best.
Absolutely Dick Cheney is in my prayers and hope he fully recovers from this difficult surgery.
Sen. David Holt and Rep. Mike Sanders dedicate Oklahoma bridge name with President George W. Bush
Rep. Mike Sanders and Sen. David Holt with former President George Bush in his Dallas office.
Sen. David Holt (R - Oklahoma City) and Rep. Mike Sanders (R - Kingfisher) this morning dedicated the "President George W. Bush Bridge" with the former President himself in his office in Dallas, Texas. The legislators presented President Bush with a replica of the sign that was placed this past weekend at the southbound Interstate 44 Bridge over the Red River. The Oklahoma Legislature approved the naming in 2011.
"Oklahomans remain grateful for President Bush's courage, and we are glad that we had this opportunity to communicate that personally," said Sen. Holt.
"We were deeply honored to represent the people of Oklahoma today, and President Bush definitely appreciated it very much," said Rep. Sanders.
In 2011, Sen. Holt authored Senate Bill 304, for which Rep. Sanders served as the author in the Oklahoma House. The bill named the southbound Interstate 44 Bridge over the Red River the "President George W. Bush Bridge." The bill passed the Legislature with wide bipartisan support and was signed into law by Gov. Mary Fallin on May 2, 2011.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation placed the sign this past weekend.
Sen. Holt served in the White House of President George W. Bush from 2002 to 2004 and coordinated the President's Oklahoma re-election efforts in 2004.
Rep. Sanders served President Bush during his 2000 campaign, then in the White House, and then finally in the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
President George W. Bush won Oklahoma with over 60 percent of the vote in 2000, and won every one of Oklahoma's 77 counties in his 2004 re-election.
Awesome! We go over that bridge every time we come back from Oklahoma City! It will be even nicer now! :)
Thanks for these great pictures and this story, Patty!
Yes that is very wonderful and thanks for posting the photos
Thank you!
A bridge I frequent when in the area. Thanks again Patty for your vigorous work in finding pix/info.
I had noted First Pup in the pix last month also.. first thing I saw in fact.
Miss them so much.
Makes me wonder whatever happened to Clintons bridge to the 21st century ? ...it kinda disappeared
It's all in the heart. Bless him and his wonderful family.
Prayers up for former VP Dick Cheney. Hope he lives at least 50 more years with his new ticker, tormenting liberals simply by continuing to exist! ;o)
