LDS Bishop shot to death in California Church
Salt Lake Tribune ^ | August 29th, 2010 | Associated Press

Posted on 08/30/2010 6:33:31 AM PDT by Jenny Hatch

Visalia, Calif. • A Mormon church official was shot dead between services on Sunday, and less than an hour later, the man suspected of the crime also died after a shootout with police.

Clay Sannar, 42, a lay bishop with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Visalia, southeast of Fresno, died after being shot in his office, said Visalia police chief Colleen Mestas.

Soon after the first shooting, a caller identified himself to police as the shooter. Police responded, and there was a confrontation with several shots exchanged, said Mestas.

The suspect was hit multiple times. He was taken to nearby Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified yet. No officers were injured, Mestas said.

Tulare County sheriff’s deputies are taking over the investigation of the shootout involving the police officers. The sheriff’s department did not immediately return calls for comment.

Visalia police continue to investigate Sannar’s shooting, but have not identified a motive.

Or have you forgotten Mountain Meadows, Danites and Rigdon’s ‘salt sermon’ calling for the extermination of non-mormons (prior to the Boggs order).

No, you have to dredge up the wore out victim card and alledge that CURRENT opponents of mormon doctrine are advocating murder. I thought it was Young that was the “blood atonement” advocate?

Really, lying for the lord - always coming to you from a mormon ward near you.

SARCASM!?!?

You, as a lawyer, are referring to the accusing of a fellow Freeper of Murder by your equally compromised LDS lawyer buddy as SARCASM?

It's good for a giggle?

Every time I think you guys have reached the bottom of that slimy barrel, you dig even more putrid festering garbage.

Every time I think you can go any further down the road to hell I end up wrong, you found an even deeper pit.

Wow. 8/30/10.

We win.

This story seems to have a lot more to do with mental illness than religion.

Yes, indeed...however mormons aren't inclined to let a story about a mormon martyr go to waste..especially one that features the dreaded EX-mormon.

Gee for years many of you have posted railings against the Church and only recenly many have said how they want to destory the Church and leaders that it was evil etc.

None see no way to agree to disagree it is anit’s way or the highway!

and when something like this happens that the LDS are not to wonder about all of the anti LDS stuff across the interestnet if it wasn’t one of those posters?

They might even visted here on FR who knows???

None of FR antis have been very thoughtful during times of tragedties only it seems another opportunity to step on the LDS beliefs

This man was a former anti member and like a scab he would not leave it alone keep picting at it, which sad to say is what most who oppose the Church continue to do...

As how I try to live now I would try not to post those things I am aware now I must not look back like Lots wife it will do not good only continue to stir the pot I really need to be on the Lord’s side and that is by doing His will and striving to keep His Commandment.

> “the fact their not naming the suspect says a lot.”

.
What it says, exactly, is that the reporter is incompetent.

The name of the shooter is Kenneth Ward, a former member of the church, who identified himself to the police when he called them.

Really? Why don't you go check post #25 before you put your foot any deeper into your mouth. The "anti's" didn't start this flame war. You might want to educate yourself about the truth (if you're even capable of comprehending it).

Your feeble attempt to even draw a causal relationship to the RF and this act is contemptible. Post #217 looks like it applies to you as well.

Good to see you are falling in line your your LDS betters and also accusing Freepers of Murder.

I would act surprised.

There is no “disagree” because this is not a case of equals. The Mormon organization is evil pure and simple, a scam that drags individuals into the very clutches of evil whilst they think they are being holy.

The evidence is overwhelming, and has been verified even more and more with each LDS posting here. NO PROOF, NO FACTS just accusation after unsusbtatiated accusation, the whipping out of the victim card and the tug of misplaced emotion to cover for dastardly lies and acts.

It is remarks like this to infer or imply that is so ungracious!

It is another way of stirring the pot and surely not how the sweet spirit of the Lord would counsel one to do.

“You should also pray for the family of the mentally ill, former mormon. “

“Of course; that goes without saying.

... let’s hope that’s why you left it out.

To read this reply is it not about baiting that place in other to feel something by another insensitivities or void of those things of the Lord which sadly to say it seems some do not have that presend in their soul!

And deliberately trying to taint the LDS not caring for all involved in a tragedy!

But w/ those Christians, it never gets vitriolic as it does here w/ the anti’s/Christian Jihadists. They practice what they preach.

I have to laugh at you and the woman attorney...you post venom accusing others of hate speech, at the same time you are accusing us of being "Christian Jihadists" and accusing some unknown FReeper of being the man that shot the martyred bishop...how long before we see a brand new version of "Praise to the Man"?

I think anyone who has followed these threads can see where the vitriol started...it started back at THIS POST "Hmmm. I wonder what his FR screen name was." by your buddy "lady" lawyer...which you jumped right on to agree with and add to...

Good question. There have been several here on FR that have lauded the massacre of Mormons & Gov. Boggs’ extermination order of Mormons in the 1800’s, saying it was justified. It’s a shame, but I’m quite certain there are some Christian Jahadists here applauding this guys actions. A VERY small minority for sure, but despicably vocal.

Just keep up with your "holier than thou" attitude...you are showing much more than you intend.

The murderer was an ex Mormon; he demanded that his name be removed from the roles
_________________________________________

Fine.. I’ll go with ex-mormon...

as you are an ex-Christian...

Some one else called him a former mormon...

if his name was indeed removed from the roles...

though it seems like they refused to remove his name...

as you said yourself he was forced to demand they remove his name from their mormon corporation roles...

I wonder if he was right about the morg shunning and ill treating him

is that typical unsocialable behavior for the mormons against someone who just wants to leave ???

You never met him and yet you have judged him and called him names like “mentally ill anti-mormon” etc...

While idolizing the guy who was shot whom you equally never knew...

what if that mormon bishop was mentally ill ???

Can anyone translate?

Why do you capitalize "church"?

Well of course....Resty, the killer was a former mormon, but "probably" visited FR. Yeah, that's the ticket.

If I read correctly....all the hater bigots...had kind words of sympathy for the man and his family.

What's an "anti member"?? Yikes!

Does LDS, Inc....continue to "pick the scab" and convert people to mormonism?

Help me God!
